    Scientology in Belgium is interesting to say the least

    * A lot of extreme right wing politicians has something to do with Scientology.
    - Johan Demol - ex-member of a extreme right wing organisation "Front de la Jeunesse" , also ex-cop and ex-politician.
    - When there is something in the news about Scientology in most cases you will see Hugo coveliers being interviewed as their laywer (who also have made some appearances in Scientology videos) spouting the same "religion prosecution" bullshit.

    * Scientology tries to infiltrate into our government and organisations
    - The secret service suddenly stopped working with the communication firm Nextel because of the fact that is has close ties with Scientology. What incident happened is a mystery.
    - In the Flemish parlement there was a partner company (Ideas) of Hewlett Packerd that provided certain services that was a Scientology company. There was a lot of uproar because it came out that Scientology companies provided services to the Ministry of Defense, Local affairs and Social Services. Those departments that have very sensitive data... . Also because there are documented cases where in the nineties they also tried to infiltrate the French and German government departments.

    * They over-flooded Belgian libraries with free (propaganda) material and books written by hubert.

    Scientology is an extremely dangerous organisation. If it was me I would already put out International Arrest Warrant for the leaders of this dangerous cult.

    The A10 machines runs ubuntu/linux for a while you know... The accelerated x11 drivers suck, but rpi as a desktop isn't partically a party also.

    The problem is that the movie industry sees it as the new cash cow.

    * When you look at good movies like Avatar and Hugo you will notice that there is such a thing as doing 3D right. The problem is that this is not the case for most movies.

    * Most movies available are (bad) conversions of movies that where never produced with 3D in mind.

    * It is ridiculous expensive not only the movie tickets but you need to see the prices they are asking for one stupid 3D movie here in this country. 28 a 35 euro's... And then they complain those things aren't selling even if a lot of people have 3D tv's at home (as you weren't able for a period of time to buy tv's without 3D)

    I hated 3D because the active glasses made me sick and gave me headaches, with the passive versions I don't have a problem.

    Insurance has been raising for a couple of years as there is an increase of natural disasters that are purely related to the weather.

    Regardles of the who and what, but the climate is changing noticable. Normally at these part in this time of year it is freezing but now we are getting temperatures in the range of 15-18 degrees. We also have more floods then in the previous years. It may be warmer, but we also have a lot more rain.

    ...and there is no reason they couldn't include higher resolution screens...or better keyboards. You could use them exactly like you would a tablet or a keyboard

    Then you still have the clumsiness of the form. A tablet is a thousand time easier to pick up and to handle in different situations.

    I'm gonna let you into a secret people create content *all* the time from tweets to email to photos MORE than they ever have.What has lost importance is Office.

    And for that kind of content (pictures, tweets) what is the added value of a computer ? Nothing. When I speak about "creating content" I'm talking about situations like office, photoshopping, etc. I surely wouldn't put office in the same range of sending a 140 character message, the average e-mail or taking a picture.

    For me that is one THE biggest reasons that Microsoft will fail in mobile space. Office isn't that a big deal for the general (let me stress the general non techie group which is the biggest market) public so Office on tablet isn't that big USP like they make it to be. But then again the average nerd, developer, ... really doesn't understand the general public that much. They always tend to see their perspective and then they are baffled about the popularity of certain things or even brands like Apple.

    I find it funny that people - then again the inmates are still running the asylum in tech land - still make fad claims or make the comparisons with netbooks.

    I found netbooks clumsy devices because of the small (lower res) screens and the small ficky keyboards. Even today I still don't see any good use for them.

    Tablets on the other hand are mostly content consuming* devices and regarding their usefulness in that regards, they are miles away from more PC. Hell they are not even on the same planet. For surfing/reading/... from my coach, on the train,.. I would pick a tablet over a laptop on any day. Hell if I'm in the same room as my PC and I have the tablet at hand, I mostly will pick up the second one.

    * I'm gonna let you into a little secret most of the population don't use computers to create content... .

    I was always under the impression his reasoning had to do with his irrational hatred agains iDevice users. When you explain your actions with "I don't care for iDevice users" there isn't much room for discussion.

    Now when looking at his resume which is plasterd with Nokia adventures, I have the feeling it has a lot more to do with butthurt and frustration regarding the downfall of Nokia.

    The whole freedom, fsf, whatever claim seems also weird for somebody that mentions different software patents on his resume. I find it kind of hypocritical for somebod with high freedom morals.

    Seeing his works relations with Nokia I want to bet on it, nithing will happen. That ks typical for such kind of people.

    Are you serious ? It would be nice if they can pull it off, but lets not pretend that Google is an philantric institution. These things are pure marketing like we see a lot, but never go very concrete.

    Switzerland issues fully automatic assault rifles (real assault rifles, not just "scary looking semi-autos") to every mentally competent male of military-eligible age.

    What I really find weird as a European is that gun loving Americans always tend to point to Switzerland. I think there is a lot of misinterpretation regarding swiss gun politics as it totally different of the situation in the states.

    * There is mandatory yearly training for people that are a member of that militia.
    * As of 2007 they don't issue personal ammo. Only special rapid deployment & military police has ammo stored at home.
    * When a person service is ended and he wants to keep the weapon it is first sent to the factory to remove the automatic feature. * The sales of automatic weapons and silencers is forbidden.
    * To carry a gun you need to have a "Waffentragschein" permit which in most cases is only given to private persons working in security
    * To buy a weapon as a private citizen is regarding permits and background checks not that much different as in most European countries. Switzerland is also a Schengen country.

    The swiss gun politics in no way is that similar as in the States.

    On the internet I have seen members of the nintendo defence force but the blame on governments, but the reality is that a Microsoft or Sony also operates in the same markets and they don't have such a moronic way of dealing with this.

    Why they just do 't check the age based on the birthday, a checkbox or whatever... You know how like xbox live, psn or even steam handles it.

    Nintendo and technology... It is like announcing cloud saves and tying an account to a single machine... Oh wait. Really when nintendo is in involved it really doesn't surprises me one bit.

    Is that why they are so much pushing casual and kid games like Batman and COD ? The WiiU has been released today in Europe and seeing what is available as launch titles, I would hardly call it targeted at the "casual" and "young" crowd... . Give me a break, really that old "Wii" explanation doesn't fly with the WiiU.

    What really struck me as odd is that you pay 100 euro's more for a system that produces the same kind of visuals (maybe with less performance) then a xbox 360 or PS3. The WiiU totally doesn't make any sense... it WOULD make sense if it was targeted at "casual" and kids but then again a 300-350 euro costing system is really stretching it.

    it doesn't seem very humble to make this about indie's, linux or DRM. For me the spirit is about charities more then some technicalities. The complaining will do more harm for those causes then for humble bundle releasing this bundle from a general public pov.

    It also struck me as odd because one of the main selling points in the gaming community is that you can get steamkeys... . And seeing how succesfull this bundle is, boy what a mistake...

    The only thing universal healthcare brought you was waiting lines and mediocre care if you're in any country but norway/sweden/denmark and maybe the UK

    The typical ignorant American answer of really not knowing anything about the world outside. In this European country (Belgium) we don't have long waiting lines or mediocre care. That is not based on some flag waving argument but multiple studies that come out every year. This is the case for most European countries BTW.

    It is funny as Americans tend always to point as greece as THE example of the "socialist" plan going bad. The situation in Greece has nothing to do with healthcare or socialism but with clientelism, fraud, tax evasion (which for American companies is a sport), etc.

    I've read the articles vertically - which I mostly do with American reporting about Israel as it so unbelievable one sided - and I noticed some parts that they mention "Anti-Americanism". The only part that is missing is freedom fries. The ironic thing is that this kind of one side view that really fuels Anti-Americanism in a lot of Arab states and even within my Arab friends that in no way I would describe as "extremists", "terrorist", or that typical bullshit. Even very moderate or even intellectuel bright people in that group tend to create more and more anti American feelings.

    You can pat yourself on the back en think that ridiculous claim that the hatred comes from the "hatred of your freedom", but is really these kind of signals that creates more extremism. The ironic thing is that the border of this "freedom" stops in what America likes and don't like.

    I know the Israelian lobby is very powerful in the states and there goes a lot of money round, but it baffles me that there are not that many critical voices within the US.

    So what about state terrorism ? Shouldn't the IDF also be banned then since they also use social media for their propaganda ? One's terrorist is another persons freedom fighter.

    There is only one small problem. With the SNES is was possible to equip the cartridges with extra chips to speed up the system. With the WiiU this is virtually impossible to do.

    As part of the overall plan for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, rather than include an expensive CPU that would still become obsolete in a few years, the hardware designers made it easy to interface special coprocessor chips to the console. Rather than require a console upgrade, these enhancement chips were included inside the plug-in game cartridges.

    I have a strong suspicion that Microsoft and Sony's next hardware is only going to be a modest step up from this current generation

    It is rather easy to predict that in the end it will be faster then their current offering otherwise there would be no point in releasing new hardware. The WiiU has in some regards difficulties to keep up with 6-7 year old hardware. In that sense I find the 300 or 350 euro's they are asking, very expensive. I can pick up a PS3 or 360 for 150 - 200 euro's...

    It really surprise me that for that prices then can only come up with this. The tablet is one thing but if I can buy a 7 tablet with a capacitive screen, multi touch with a lot more processing power for 50$ in china at wholesale prices, I don't believe that it costs a lot more for a boatload of tablets with a resistive single touch screen and virtually no processing power. Those tablets must be dirt cheap.

    Nintendo may make good first party titles, even if I personally have me share of mario games , but in designing HW they really suck the last couple of years.

    I am a Wii owner btw and I don't like the previous "correct" way of doing consoles. The Wii was my worst console buy I ever did. Seeing the general lukewarm reception for the WiiU I dare to have a different opinion if this is the way to go in the future.

    Hell I'm all for cool hackable stuffbut there are tons of cool gadgets out their that doesn't get the same attention. Stuff that is more open in every meaning of the world. Is this news ? I can pick up a HD camera (1080p30fps) for the same amount on aliexpress. Seeing that it is developed by RS, delivery from China will be quicker. I can even send it back and let it reship and it still will be faster then RS shipment of RPI stuff.

    What is even ironically that the Liz Upton doesn't like Slashdot (look it up) or its community or anybody that has some valid criticism. Seeing how many advertisement Slashdot post it seems just a ridiculous thing to create buzz and post advertisement for people who in all honesty doesn't like your community. But then again sometimes I have the feeling seeing how things are getting edited, even the editors don't like this community... . So let me ask you this honest question timothy, why do you hate us so much ?

    Why no attention for other open source products that may even have a more open attitude because openness doesn't only stop with hardware or software... . They ban people on ridiculous grounds (read the examples and make your own mind up if those bans are valid) I even saw people from the RPI foundation attacking luc verhoeven (of the lima driver) because he pointing (rightfully) that their whole Open Source GPU drivers are just PR BS. I have seen companies or groups abusing or misrepresenting open source slaughtered for less.

    Sorry to come over as pissed, but it aggravates the hell out of me that projects like these gets ignored when they raise money to create a really fully open system and there is so much non news posted about the RPI. I find these kind of projects a lot more interesting for another RPI add on.

    I don't know why you put those European partners between quotes as they are good enough to pay billions to bail out ireland...

    That is what bothers me as a European , Ireland undermines a lot of countries by setting up a tax haven which is very damaging for our economies. Seeing that they needed to be bailed out , it is afe to say that even the irish people have a lot of benefits of the situation.

    The skylander, lego, ... are also available on the PS3 which you have. The differences between the ps3, xbox 360 and even the wii u is to small to imho shell out money to get an extra console or to get your money worth.

    I had the xbox 360 and the PS3 for example and to be honest the difference was so neglible that I ended up selling one. The wii I also had but I had more use of it as a paper weight then a gaming machine. Great first party titles but that was also all and I don't have the feeling that with the WiiU it will be a different case.

    I would go for some games or even saving for when the nextgen machines arrive. For me that makes economical more sense.

    It is a ridiculous levy as you pay for your right to make home copies of the media you own. But really it is just a way to get money in the pockets of the entertainment industry that are the recipients of what is collected through these "Auvibel" taxes. Here in Belgium it was the works of Fientje Moerman of the liberal party OpenVLD that started this shenigans with their auvibel taxes. OpenVLD has a lot of ties with the entertainment industry or media in its whole.

    You pay for example 50 eurocent of taxes on an empty DVD. But 99% of the DVD productions are protected by anti copying measures. It is is illegal by Belgian law to circumvent those measures so in reality you can't execute that right which you pay for and that goes into the pockets of the entertainment industry...

    When they started those taxes justice went in high gear (as a victim of abuse I can tell you that for other cases they aren't that fast... ) and threatened every single shop (even in our neighboring countries for example as a Belgian it is impossible to order blank media in the UK, germany, ... ) or people selling blank media on ebay with lawsuits for tax evasion, etc.

    In the end they totally destroyed the industry or sales of blank media in this country and a lot of people bought external hard drives that didn't had those taxes at the time. Now you pay on a HDD or usb stick larget then 1GB, 9 euro's / 11 dollars.

    Demand from Apple went from 15 million to 1,5 million panels and they are in the process of eliminating Samsung as a supplier completely. They have invested in Toshiba plants for a reason. There is also an indication that the reason that Foxconn have invested in Sharp had something to do with Apple. Although I'm more convinced it has something to do with their IZGO panels then AppleTV.

    That Samsung "terminated" the LCD contract has zero impact as Apple wanted to eliminate them from the process anyway and seeing how steadily demand dropped (1,5 million are peanuts if you take into account how many products have LCD panels) that process was already underway. The only thing here is that Samsung can save a little face.

    So is this pure PR or even damage control. And it is understandable, if a big client like Apple announced it takes it business elsewhere as a company you gonna take a hit.

    A lot of people will potentially hate Windows 8 because they try to cram a tablet interface into a desktop OS.

    A lot of people will potentially hate Windows tablet because they thought with an OS that is also available on the desktop, that this also means they can run the same apps as on the desktop.

    Instead of calling it "unified vision" they need to call it "unified shooting in your two feet" vision.

    Yes there will be a lot of confusion when some tablets can run their apps and some don't. Most non techies don't care or even know about different architectures. And when the general public becomes aware that not all tablets can run their apps, the only thing they will see is that you will have "non" expensive tablets that are crippled in their eyes and expensive tablets that can run their apps. Not a positive image for Microsoft.

    The difference between iOS/Android is that their is a clear distinction between the desktop OS and the mobile OS. Some things that gets into OS X for example, is very subtle. With Windows Microsoft made the decision to make it unified which is nice if you have platforms that are compatible, but if you mix x86 with ARM it gets confusing fast.
