480p is not HDTV. It is just plain DTV. HD is 720p, 1080i and 1080p. This is why FOX is always criticized for only broadcasting 480p, it is not HD.

  2. Re:My Situation on Whether (And When) To Buy HDTV? · · Score: 1

I am in an apartment as well and can recieve HD signals via an indoor antenna. Depends on where you are located with relation to the transmitter of course. Check www.antennaweb.org for info on your area.. Also you will need to try a few different antennas to see which one works best. I suggest asking at www.avsforum.com if you need help getting started.

A bit of a pain to get setup, but it is worth it. All the national networks, except FOX, are broadcasting in an HD format. FOX does 480p, FOX sucks. It may vary depending on affiliate, but know the national feed is in HD so you can complain to your local if they are skimping.

Where does it say you have to certify anything? My understanding is that the TCPA does not certify anything, they just publish the spec and place the certification duty on the developer. So you can certify or not, the TCPA doesn't care. Everythign is freely available so they can't exactly force you to certify anything.

I still think WB has the right to demand the ISP kick those users. It is still copyright violation which is illegal in Australia. Media Force just needs to use a different form letter which will cite law specific to the country in question.

IANAL, but isn't sharing a movie or music a copyright violation? The owners of the copyright are asking the ISP to stop the people who are infringing their copyright. What is the problem? Copyright is pretty much international law with the Berne convention. I see no jurisdiction problem here.

No all people are interested in is the same experience they get with their car now. Freedom to drive anywhere they want without worrying about fuel. When you can charge an electric in 5 minutes let me know, maybe I will think about buying one.

Fry's electronics in Sunnyvale CA has special parking spots for cars that use the EV1's charger plugs.

Westside Pavilion in L.A. and Santa Monica place have charge spots as well. Number of times I have seen them used? Zero.

Electric seems like a pretty dead tech right now. Long refuel time, short range. Why would anybody want one? Hybrids and fuel cells have much more potential.

No it is not arbitrary to say that flight took off after the Wright's. Flight was an anomoly, a curious spectacle prior to the 1900's. It became an everyday part of the common man's world a couple of decades after the Wright's flight.

Lets use a quote from the your umd sources:
"Once details of the Wrights methods became public when their patent was issued in late 1905, other inventors quickly copied the important discoveries of the Wright brothers, and developed airplanes as capable as those of the Wrights"

In other words the Wrights made a huge contribution to the field.

Look, I am not denying the influence that the early pioneers of flight had. Notice what I changed the subject line to? It is what Newton said of his accomplishments. I just find it silly to insist that the Wright's did not have a great influence on the world of aviation.

  25. "Standing on the shoulders of giants" on Kiwi Flight Before the Wright Brothers? · · Score: 2
