So why did some areas of the world have localized acid rain problems? I seem to remember reading that by reducing the Greenhouse gas output of factories in the northern midwest and northeast of the US reduced the acid rain in the southeastern portion of bordering Canadian cities and over the Great Lakes. Also, there have been numerous political issues raised between Korea and China due to unchecked rampant Chinese factory and powerplant pollution traveling in the stratosphere and over the border and causing acid rain in North Korea, South Korea, and other areas of East Asia. Lastly, to solely analyze CO2 is missing the point since CO2 reacts with the O2 and H2O content to not only form more complex molecules but others that further block the reflection of sunlight from the Earth's surface and trap the heat.
I do agree about your comments about geopolitics and shortsighted view of only the US as the problem domain. Many studies of the polar regions show that these areas have a much higher concentration of some types of Greenhouse gases that we see around the areas that we'd suspect as having produced them. This is obviously due to jetstreams that travel across the globe, and we can see from the hurricanes that the world is a complicated interaction of physical systems not just a simplistic "it's windy" or "it's rainy" answer that most people would be more comfortable digesting.
Have you ever even read anything by Chomsky in your life? Do you even understand what he has done for the field of linguistics and computational analysis in particular? Saying "Chomskian logic" like a perjorative for "damn pinko liberals" is about as logical as Intelligent Design.
am i the only person who thinks its funny that there is quite a few machinima (game engine rendered movies) that are of better film quality than anything ILM makes on their billion dollar systems?
it isn't always just the fact that you can't play the game on linux, as with cedega you can usually get the more popular and older titles to run under it... the problem is that video driver support is terrible under linux still, especially with ATI cards. This means that if you can get the game to play without graphical glitches at all it will still be about 15-20 frames per second slower than the windows counterpart. This is a huge deal because if you're only getting like 30fps in a game such as FEAR or Call of Duty 2 with all the nice details then you will HAVE to turn the graphical detail down a bunch to get back those 15-20 fps you lost from running via reverse engineering on Linux OpenGL drivers. It should also be noted that since most developers are still using DirectX 9.0, OpenGL has not been heavily invested in acceleration for consumer class cards (unlike workstation cards) and so you can say that this is also part of the reason the Linux drivers are slower than their Windows counterpart (along with the fact that they just don't tune/optimize the Linux driver as much-- Cedega I'm sure is not in the forefront of their mind either-- or release as often).
If you are into games like World of Warcraft, such as the 6 million people worldwide that they boast, then maybe you'd rather have 40-50 fps in areas with many players/monsters/effects than 10-15fps (which is fairly difficult to play with in combat, especially PvP)...
Strategy or RTS games like Civilization IV or LOTR:Battle for Middle Earth 2 are not FPS/action type games but they still have far less problems being run on a Windows machine due to the aforementioned compatibility/driver issues, and gamers would still prefer to run them on an OS/driver platform that can max out their graphics subsystem.
I'm not knocking consoles, they're cool for what they are... but (exclusive platform) titles on the PC offer differing gameplay experiences that you will be hard pressed to find on the console, or are vastly superior due to the input systems available. For example, Half-Life 2 is just plain easier to learn to play for most PC gamers on a mouse and keyboard than going to an arcade in Japan and relearning how to play using a weird joystick setup.
Demanding that people play less games or play your system of choice is not the way to win anyone over to your viewpoint.
Degrading weapon skills is a horrible mechanic that serves only to punish players for wanting to try out different weapons. You'll end up with everyone using the same type of weapon for many levels, because nobody wants to lose their skill that they need to properly use the uber weapon they want later on. Basically nobody would even consider playing around with other weapons unless the bonuses on them were extremely beneficial.
As soon as they bust one group, another fills its vacancy. It's like busting drug cartels... the only way to get rid of them is to attack the root of the problem, not the symptom. You want less piracy? Make games less costly to purchase, and easier to do so on a whim (impulse buying is what is saving music right now, via iTunes).
I dunno, with a stable target maybe they can spend less time doing the engine and more time on the actual game... too bad id software has a terrible game designer.
In the best case these "hybrid" systems are supposed to let people get a taste of various types of gameplay before the commit to a certain profession. The only problem I see with this is that most classes really only come into their own when you are fairly deep into them. Can you start the game knowing that you'd rather be a certain melee/caster hybrid than a caster/melee ?
agreed. something like OS virtualization needs to take place so we can have multiple OS concurrently so to run MS Windows games or apps in one OS and then virtual terminal style tab to running your iLife or such
It has absolutely tanked in Japan... no RPG at launch? Both Mistwalker titles are going to be going up against PS3 launch, so it doesn't exactly have a very big draw-- also they are not really proven franchises, being both brand new.

So every writer has to compromise their vision in order to sell a product within their script? Doesn't that imply also a self censorship that will take place over time? Nobody wants to offend any companies-- how would you ever product place anything afterwards?
Is there anything on DC that wasn't on another platform or is worth porting?

oh my god, that game was the worst of the series, with the draw system being possibly one of the worst game mechanics ever to grace a JRPG.

I don't know what country or games you've been playing but I'm pretty sure that raping people is still frowned apon universally.
Just like in movies the creator doesn't always have full creative or production control :(
Wouldn't using Konqueror be the same as Firefox? Konq isn't a suite either, so you'd be using KMail or something else for your mail...

Especially if it Linux you're buying.

maybe he was referring more to computational accuracy and ability to properly and stably handle enterprise level hardware configurations?
i thought greedy venture capitalists and fraudulent accounting was to blame?
