There is evidence regarding certain dinosaurs, such as the velociraptor, and how they have evolved into modern day avians. How you could say this with a straight face is beyond me.
If you are constantly filling and emptying the drive, such as using it as a secondary drive for p2p apps such as Bit Torrent and Emule, then you will fragment the drive quite quickly for the files that remain on the drive. You'll end up with some parts of a file at the beginning, some at the middle, and some at the end (not necessarily in that order from start of the file to the end of the file).
If we brush capitalism aside, then yes, I guess you're right. Keep in mind that the more $3000 machines they sell, rather than $300 ones, the more likely they'll be able to stay afloat and/or keep maintaining high standards for their software. Making something "just work" costs money.
It also requires a completely locked down platform with the minimal amount of hardware variables. Windows is so crashy because there are a billion different hardware configurations and terrible drivers written by foreigners who can't read or write documentation for anything in English to save their life.
Wow! I had no idea that GNUStep could be themed at all! Artists please make-over and demand GUI features to fully make over this system into a modern looking piece of beauty! ^_^
well what if the screen width is wider than the printed page? then what? you end up with images that either resize, get cropped, or text is pushed around onto other pages. you can end up with two pages printing for a single page in browser with an orphan on the 2nd page.
A few issues of Wired ago had an article on a device that allowed you to control and view any TV remotely. What it is: two boxes on either end, one in the US attached to your cable or satellite system, and one in your home abroad on your TV. The signal is routed from one location to the other via ethernet and an internet connection (I don't believe a computer is necessary).
This is essentially what you were thinking of doing, but in a specially designed low cost solution.:)
Wouldn't a central authority branch off the FCC for coordinating digital radio make it easier to achieve the scenario you outline with regards to DAB? People who think that the national economy works only by invisible hand alone are misled. There are distinct reasons as to why the Sherman and Antitrust Acts were put into law, and it's a shame that they aren't more vigorously applied in the media conglomoration spaces. The fact that 90% of radio in the US is owned by two companies, Infinity and Clearchannel, is just plain sad when you realize that nobody did anything to stop them from buying out all of their competitors like the FEC often does in mergers and aquisitions between large companies that compete in the same space.
Also, as per receivers in cars and what not-- nobody had XM or Sirius until recently... The only incentive that manufacturers need is some companies and organizations committing to making real broadcast stations and infrastructure setup. Honestly I don't see how consumers could ignore the fact that you could get quality on par with satellite radio (correct me if I'm wrong) and no subscription fee. You would get nation-wide, as they explain that stations in France carry the same signal in the UK still.
I really wish AOpen had more success with their Tube Sound motherboards... If they had released one that supported the CPU I wanted I would have bought one.:(
so correct it? that's the whole point, jackass

thanks for the link
it isn't quite the same as:
"I'm envisioning a future of invitation-only networks, limited to a certain 'degree of kevin bacon' mixed in somehow."
but WASTE does a good job of "IM" buddy list style sharing and ecryption of everything...
you ever think that rosetta is more like wine than it is like virtual pc? ie handles the upper API calls by translating them to native lower level?
Satire is a protected right under Free Speech clause of the Bill of Rights. Get a clue.

Blame ATI. Their drivers are complete shit for X11.

I would love this tech!
AVG is okay, but I prefer Avast! (and it integrates with several IM and P2P programs).
I really wish AOpen had more success with their Tube Sound motherboards... If they had released one that supported the CPU I wanted I would have bought one. :(
Posted in the wrong topic, smart guy.
Which comedian was it that said, "visualize a billionaire pissing on your head"
Yep. I noticed this too. Do people even bother to search the Slashdot archives to see if it was repeated before posting it? Heh.
It's your fault for being an early adopter and expecting commercial support for something that breaks itself early and often.
He's awfully "nationalistic" for China for someone who is living in Australia of all places. What a hypocrite.
So you're saying that BSD can be unreliable if you have an unruly user space application? For shame.
The ordering systems for both 1800flowers.com and ftd.com don't work in Firefox. Also, Activision's job web site.
Please... KOTOR 2 will come out and you will slip back to the dark side.
Fear leads to anger
Anger leads to hate
Hate leads to suffering
Suffering leads to hitting the KOTOR 2 crackrock!
The Underdogs website has an entry on the game for you. Enjoy. :)
