Actually I didn't put it in the article, but I am a computer science major, and have already taken the two courses on syntax and whatnot for C and C++ that are offered at my school before I transfer to get into the major courses. Only the C++ course was required, but I took the others for fun. Have also taken circuit boards, web development, javascript and up through differential equations for fun.
Awesome, thanks. I was wondering if they'd come out with some way to release movies like Avatar in 3D soon since most people are saying that's the only way to see it. Good to know.
on a side note, hooray for being labeled off topic for trying to clarify what the new technology is:P
I don't understand what the difference is between 3D blu-ray and normal blu-ray HD movies. Do they mean like "holy shit that's popping out of the screen" with 3D glasses support like Avatar or just "Damn that's some nice graphics"
Returning gold from the moon could be cost-effective, if you were willing to spend quite a few billion dollars building a mass-driver to launch it to Earth, and facilities to build simple lifting bodies to land it safely.
It'd be cheap to drop stuff from the moon down to earth until an AI named Mike gets recruited to help in the rebellion. Damn computers.
I'm not sure about other universities, but the one I've been going to doesn't unless the teacher buys a copy to have them keep for reference (non-checkout). That's happened with only one of my teachers in the near four years I've been there, and it was only one book so it tended to be a pain to get to.
I kind of find it funny that they're complaining about text books being pirated. After all they've been charging far too much for them for a very long time, and it's ridiculous since the people they're trying to screw over are students. If your parents aren't rich and paying for everything for you at school, you have to work to pay rent, food, bills and for classes/tuition, and a lot of those students can't get loans if their parents aren't on the up and up, so it's practically criminal that the text books would cost that much for how cheap they are to print.
At Fresno City College and at the University I've been unable to get a Linux laptop onto the wireless because of their setup. I went in to the IT people once to try and get it going, and they said "Oh there's the problem, you're using firefox. I'll just open Internet Explorer and get that set up for you.. where's Internet Explorer?" *facepalm* Naturally I let them try and search for it for a couple of minutes, because I tend to be kind of a jackass. Either way, meh Fresno. I'm not too sure about the UCs and other State universities, but I know we're not able to log our machines onto the wireless here. Kind of sucks for us computer science majors since a lot of stuff can be done on our machines rather than the schools, but there's only like 10 of us in total, anyway.
Bah, we didn't even have computer classes, and I was class of '06. Poor school district FTW. Our options for electives were a PE class, or foreign languages. Learning was only something that happened if you wanted to do stuff at home.
I work for a subcontracted dispatching company for Dish Network technicians called Linkus, and I can honestly say customer service would be a Hell of a lot better if they actually paid us more for the bullshit we have to deal with on a daily basis, and stopped trying to fit more tasks in for us to do on top of the already horribly busy day. As it stands, it's a dollar over minimum an hour to work a 10 hour day of listening to yelling customers, angry technicians, recording stat information from jobs, and making a precall just to say "Hello, your technician is on his way" and get some customer who wants to share their life story, which sucks because you cant hang up on them. Most of the time we don't even bother to call customers when a tech is running a bit late because it's just a solid bitchfest, and the pay isn't worth it, aside from the constant "do this or we're going to fire you!" attitude of the managers. Systems set up to treat employees like cattle seem to only work decently in other countries, which just makes me even more angry with whoever makes the decisions on how to run things, and whether to outsource or not.
This one I've been struggling with. I'm addicted to Mountain Dew, and I love the stuff, but this "hip name change" bullshit just irritates me to no end. Hell, I'd probably be alright with it if they had just labeled the can Mt Dew, since at least Mt is an acceptable abbreviation.
So this should work in the US, too? I'm looking to buy a new laptop sooner or later, but I sure as hell won't be using Windows. A refund would be prettty awesome.
I 3 this threat. Been doing PC support for the last 3 years now while going through school, and I _loath_ reinstalling windows. Writing down all these peoples little problems/solutions == win.
They usually sit down in a cafe or something and plug in at a wall outlet. Usually they'll buy something small so they don't get kicked out. And since I know someone will come along and say, "how do they even get a laptop!?" you can pick them up pretty damn cheap at yardsales now a days if they're really old (like a giant toshiba gray brick) or a pawn shop. It's kind of hard to be without Internet now a days, even if you're homeless, especially if you're trying to find work. Try walking around the mall someday asking for applications, most of the time some pimply faced kid or overweight middle aged guy with a neckbeard tells you it's online.

Whew, good thing I'm taking an online class this semester. Guess that means I can't become a juror if this goes through :P

Oh how I wish I had modpoints. That gave me a good laugh before bed :D +1 point for you, good sir.
I still do what my nerdy forefathers before me did. Play RISK and D&D.
Bill Clinton is making up words now?

Nostalgia'd. I haven't heard the term carphone in a good 15 years or so when I was still in elementary school, heh.

So we're judging quality by how much money is gained through effective marketing now? That's lovely. By your logic, Star Wars Episode 1 was _amazing_!
Or the Mario movie. That one was great, too. Of all the people to direct though, why the guy that did spiderman? He made those suck pretty bad.

In the immortal words of many MUDs that are still played today,

You, good sir, are the first Troll in a thread about the Hobbit. Expect to be turned to stone.
