  1. Other hand gestures? on FAA Gets a Big-Screen Touch Table · · Score: 2, Funny

Moving a hand across the surface pans the display' two fingers moving apart zooms it out; and two fingers moving together zooms it in. And a two finger "salute" bombs the target.
  2. Unofficial AMD comment on Intel to Take Online Suggestions for New Chips · · Score: 1

  3. DRM vs. Consumer on Music DRM in Critical Condition? · · Score: 1
I hope they will see the benefits to the consumer. For instance compare this popular song in DRM mode (AKA control freaks):

what would you ask if you had just one question?

    Yeah, Yeah, DRM is great
    Yeah, Yeah, DRM is good
Yeah Yeah yeah yeah yeah To the traditional version for consumers:

If God had a name what would it be?
And would you call it to his face?
If you were faced with him in all his glory
what would you ask if you had just one question?

    Yeah, Yeah, God is great

I mean, Weird Al does derivative performances that copy nearly exactly the music of some artists (he usually alters only the lyrics) and every time he does a M. Al asks the artists permission to make his versions. Do a search on the internet and you will see why there are no Wierd Al versions of any material by Prince.

Yeah it's almost 2 hours long, but it will blow your mind! Only if you watch it without doubting anything or thinking about what is said/shown. It suffers from the usual, no hard evidence at all. All it has is people making statements, eye-witness reports and showing blurry/unfocused photoes.

I wonder how much longer they can keep denying the more than obvious. Verily.

The UFO people (etc.) are _believers_ and don't need facts, and hence can't supply any. Not unlike faith/religion, you either believe or you don't.
But the question about aliens on earth (past, present or future) will only be answered if based on a clear answer. And that means facts, anything else is just speculation and best left for people writing fiction.
  17. Security vs. physics 101 on Recovering a Lost or Stolen Gadget · · Score: 1

I particularly like the first one, about a new Singapore-based software that when you download it to your phone, messages everyone in your phone's database whenever a new chip with a new phone number is installed in the phone. This makes it very hard for someone to steal your phone as all your friends get their new phone number." It might appear hard to get around this security feature, but it is quite easy if the thief knows just a bit about phones and/or physics. Here is the two most obvious ones, besides removing the software while the phone is still turned on.

    - Use a SIM test card, that will at most allow the phone to dial an emergency service, but still allowing full access to the phone and the removal of the software.
    - Stuff the phone into a Faraday cage (an antistatic bag is enough for this) and then remove the security software.
  18. Re:What's that? on Apple iPhone Dissected · · Score: 1

A non-user replaceable battery limits the life of a device substantially. This was most likely done to prevent users from buying and using batteries that could be unsafe, as in not under quality control from Apple. Crappy* batteries could destroy the phone during recharging, or during use, both at a risk to the user. And you can get a replacement done at Apple (for a fee), that means you are covered by their quality control, and if something should happen you know where to go (unlike the crappy* manufactor of the user replaced one).

*Crappy, as in _cheap_ batteries of unknown/shaddy origin, for those that want to save on the replacement.

Why is it always schools? It is the only place where you can be systematically forced to do things you hate and abhor.
If you don't fit in you can be punished mentally (for instance; low grades, teachers and kids behaviours towards you, being left alone) and/or physically (for instance; gym class and shower, other kids treatment of you and your belongings).
As a child these can be obstacles that can't be overcome, even with loving parents since they might not know. It is "easy" to be left alone and move in a downward spiral when there is no obvious way to go with these problems (how many schools tell about the counselor they have, if they have one?).
And if if you think about it, there is rarely someone at the school whos sole purpose is the well being of every single child in an active manner (some schools do have that, but often in a passive "come to me if there is a problem" role).
I am not saying it is the schools fault, but they are part of the problem and solution.
