I've heard it every which way, and I frequently fly domestic US flights for work. At some point within the past 2 years it was very common to hear that cell-phones must be off completely and no, airplane mode is not ok. I believe that was usually on US Airways. More recently, they say airplane mode is ok, but everything must still be powered off during take-off and landing. I'm usually surrounded by people with smartphones that don't bother to shut them off and just put them in airplane mode anyway. I've also been on a handful of flights that had an in-flight Wi-Fi hotspot. I've flown on United, US air, Delta, Continental, and Southwest within the past 6 months.
Indeed, I just meant in the context of the article, pretty much everyone will automatically consent to any sort of tracking because they've been trained to hit yes to everything, even when its not a 25000 word EULA, which pretty much no one has the patience to read.
Have you seen the average non/. reading web user? This is exactly what they do, they click "ok" and and "yes" to anything that pops up without reading it automatically. I do a specific kind of tech support for a device that runs on windows, and with some users its impossible to find out what an error message says because they've clicked "ok" so quickly practically as a reflex, it doesn't occur to them that the contents of the dialog box might be helpful.
You realize that MS will brick modded consoles that connect to Live, right? They don't ban them, they turn them into completely unusable trash. Sony isn't destroying anyone's hardware. They removed one well-liked software feature and they're prosecuting the dude who let the cat out of the bag on their security. That sucks, but so far as I know they're only action against modders is to ban them from PSN.
You realize Supreme Commander was the "spiritual" sequel to Total Annihilation which predates Starcraft by a few months? Chris Taylor didn't have the rights to the name, but employed the same basic design. It included the same features you say you enjoyed such as income based economy and large maps that made things like recon and air transport useful. It was also 3d and employed real ballistic physics and stuff, in '97. Too bad about Supreme Commander 2, you can blame Square-Enix for that.
Try making puppet states instead of annexing the cities at first. Wait till your happiness balances out then annex them one at a time, building a courthouse in the one you just annexed before you annex the next one. Its that the conquered people are unhappy and contribute to the overall unhappiness.
I've never used an ESD strap and have never killed any electronics with ESD. I've even zapped a motherboard while working on carpet (dumb) and it worked for years. I just make sure I touch the case first but i've installed RAM around a hundred times from 30-pin SIMMs on a 486 to triple channel DDR3 on an i7. I once had a 512MB ddr-2600 crucial DIMM cause BSODs and need to be RMAed after about 2 years of use, but i doubt that was ESD related.
Well since they changed the SP system so that you get SP based on the mob's rating an not based on individual actions, you can get more creative. I do things like Banish II (damage + lower astral def) then Dia. Or Aborb ACC, then initiation to give it to a LNC or MRD so they hit more often. Basically, finding ways to make combos out of the skills. Also, having two mages or fighting more reasonable mobs so you dont have to constantly heal is more fun. Oh and I got this shadow dart thing with guild marks that is a basic attack that lowers hate.
The mobs you see around r30 leves have more interesting abilities. I've had fun paralyzing or shield bashing at just the right time to stop a big attack, or running from gnats when they reappear and do a lightning attack in the direction they face.
I use a controller so the auto-attack/ chat thing didnt occur to me. I also use vent and play with my gf in the same room.
I compare this to WoW where I played a Mage, and it was basically nuke, wait, nuke, oops I nuked too much, shit I'm dead. Or Nuke...wait...wait. And all the spells seemed rather similar. Fire, more fire, a lot of fire.
I'm not hardcore and I play for about 3-4 hours a day when Im home, and there are people way ahead of me. I
The guildleve system has been much improved. As you rank up, higher ranks leves and faction leves are more interesting.
There are actual Quests too that reveal the main story and class story as you rank up. These involve interaction with NPCs, and are quite interesting.
It does however need an action house. But there was a long void at the begining of the game when there was little to buy because there were no crafters high enough to make cool things. Now, there are rank 40+ crafters of every kind, and the Market Wards have been organized based on type of item, making it easier to find what you need, especially since people actually make stuff now.
Most of all, now that I'm around rank 28, I find that the combat system is the most fun of any MMO I've played so far. The game needs lots of work, but its also pretty fun.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I have an iPhone and I travel a lot. I spend lots of time playing games on my psp and ds which I carry around because I'm terrified of killing the meager battery on my iPhone by screwing around on it when I may need to respond to a call, email, txt, or IM. For that reason I've never spend a nickle on a game in the app store, but am perfectly willing to plop down $20-$40 for new DS and PSP games that I want. Also they don't suck and run like junk because I have a 3G, but really thats a different issue.
They used an advanced plastic explosive that gives off so few vapors at room temperature that machines nor dogs could detect it, even when that package was re examined when they were notified of the threat. Diesel is like the polar opposite, readily emitted smelly vapors.
My thoughts exactly. I'll give up my paperbacks when the FAA decides its OK to use an e-book reader during take off and landing. Honestly I'm surprised they allow them to be used at all considering they have 3G transmitters. Do they have an "airplane mode" like most smartphones?
Maybe "normal people" dont multitask, but if I have chrome, word, and excel open on my work machine with Vista and 1GB of ram, the system is practically unusable. Its using something like 850MB just starting up. Is 7 really better? OTOH I have an XP machine with 512MB right next to it which works fine.
Ahh yea, my first PC at home had a Pro Audio Spectrum 16. Also has a caddy-loading 3X CD-ROM running off the 16's 1 device SCSI controller. At the point I didn't have too much trouble getting it to work.
Now I can't give 2 shits about the sound card, as long as it has digital out, I can just connect it to a surround receiver and let that do the heavy lifting. I guess the next step is to use a video card with audio on the hdmi and it really wont matter anymore.
Indeed. The "people who have listed phone numbers" demographic is most certainly not representative. I don't have one, neither do 3/4 or more of my friends. I think the only ones who do are homeowners, everyone else has just a cell. So there are certainly age and economic status issues here.
Exactly, the only real advantage of CCD over CMOS is that it has a 2D ROI (Region of Interest) instead of 1D so you can do lower resolutions (for higher framerate) at the correct aspect ratio.
What are you smoking? A driver's license has nothing to do with citizenship unless you have an microchipped EDL that can be used to travel to canada and mexicon, and I believe only NY and one or two other states issue them, and only by request and additional expense.
For one of classes during my last semester at school I used a scope running some sort of embedded windows that saved traces to a 3.5" floppy drive. It was required to copy these into a report for one of the class projects. This was only about 2 years ago.
To be fair, you could have slipstreamed the sata driver into the install disc if you have access to another computer and a cd burner. Motherboards that came out not long after that had the correct logic onboard so the xp installer no longer needed drivers.
If you are referring to the recent date error, you are incorrect. This was not a PSN outage, and some of the games refused to start because the internal clock of the OS and the power management subsystem did not match because of a 2010 leap year error in the power management chip.

Theres a a very long list of exclusive PS3 games. See this list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_3_games and organize by exclusive.
I'm sure we can add a few things like the Walkman and Minidisc to Sony's contributions to society.

I recall seeing that in the first Java EULA I accepted back in like 94 or thereabouts. I was just a kid and thought it was pretty funny.
