If I buy software from the store, I may not own the sequence of one's and zero's, but I sure as heck own the physical CD that came in the box. Just as when I by a book from a store, I may not own the words themselves, but I definitely own the physical medium they are on.
Infact, that (books) is a very good thing to compare software to interms of copyright and whatnot. I mean what would happen if some author decided to post a EULA on a book saying that you couldn't write a review about it? He'd get laughed at, and the reviews would still be writen(though maybe less favorably).
Few minor corrections: They are currently moving to 14 digits, not bits. They do mention the price: "That's because the price of the EPC tags needs to fall from nickels and dimes today to fractions of a penny."
How is having a very small microchip embedded in the can any odder than the barcode system currently in use?
You make it sound like BNC connector are outdated tech. They are still used in televison (professional equip), osciliscopes and other test&measrment devices, and some RF equipment; to name a few uses...
While Massachussetts does use Fast-Lane, it IS compatable with EZ-Pass. You can readily travel among the states using that system (NY, NJ, MA, PA, MD, DL) and it will all get billed to the same location.
Seriously! If they are going to ticket everyone doing 5 over, why not the people traveling at half the limit in the middle lane? They could tell that it isn't traffic by looking at the cars around them and checking their speed. If they (the other cars) are going alot faster, ticket the person.
Because removing the faster drivers (insanely and otherwise) does little when you still have the insanely slow drivers.
And the whole NYT fabrication stuff - this would not have been so big an issue in almost any other country, because the assumption is that all the media has some slant
There is a pretty big differnce bettween slant, and flat out BS. Any country that isn't annoyed when they find out they are being lied to, is either very jaded, or....
What would prevent an arc between the ends of their ceramic rods? Possibly the same thing that prevents arcing from the wires to the towers they are attached to.
Distance.
The electricity will only arc so far (do to resistance of the air)
Well technically you could claim that a given data block is simply an encoded version of equal or smaller data block. You are simply lacking the key needed to decode it.
However you could also argue that the opposite way as well....(Yes I'm more refering to one time pads than steganography, but hey...)
Umm actually the use of Linux had next to NOTHING to do with the AU$350,000 savings. I would think it would be more to the fact that they added automation to a entirely manual task.
Yes Linux may have been cheaper than say, Windows, but not $350,000 cheaper.
Well the concept behind that test (and any other test that tries to get an "objective" view of your personality, is that thes same question is asked several times in different methods. So if you change one of those questions' answers you will only marginally affect the outcome.
Infact wavering on certain questions will tend to indicate that you fall in the middle of the two extremes the questions represent.
Umm... But civilian air fields don't track planes using actual radar. They use the transponders on the planes. Hence they could see a Blackbird if it had a transponder turned on...
Actually I have to disagree with that. Infact I'll even go so far as to agure that morse code is binary.
(Angle 1) There are only two states of the signal 'on' and 'off' Just because the 'on' time can vary does not a trinary system make.
(Angle 2) The 'di' and the 'da' are the two symbols used in encoding a character. The 'null' is simply a break. Calling the break a third symbol is like calling the null time bettween say.. EIA-232 bytes a symbol. It's just plain wrong.

Hows this suit you: RFID Tags on Mach3 Razorblades Snap Your Photo
Beyond that there hasn't been much in the way of commercial usage of them, just people talking about what they could do (such as the Gillette story)
Well once they make things to jam our jammers, we just need to jam their jammers; over and over ad infinitum.

So you want to make a eMac into a dumb terminal?

These lawyer are getting 20% ($202 M for clients $48 M for lawyers) While $48M is a lot of money 20% is not really unprecidented.
Well I really doubt they are going to sue the 3 people who are sharing "Convoy"
