  1. So do most of the rest of apps on Google Pulls 21 Malware Apps From Android Market · · Score: 1

Ok, no, the rest of the apps don't root it and install stuff behind your back, but because of the stupid way Google has set up permissions most apps needs all kind of potentially dangerous permissions, most of them can read your phone number, if you are calling others etc - even though they don't need that but they must have the permission to do something else.

I would generally prefer Android over Ios but I don't install or buy most things because of the bad permission system, that is something google should clearly cleanup for the future.

Nonsense, it brings a ton of extra software and free software onto the devices.

" It also is no substitute for a rich and powerful API with deep access to OS functionality."

That is something programmers care about, not ordinary people.

"Open systems tend to encourage programmer laziness on the part of both the third party developers and developers of the platform and end users end up suffering because of it with bugs and incompatibilities when a new update is released."

Or that is just an easy excuse.

"Consumers don't care about Google's promise of Android updates..."

    Period.

Consumers don't care. A small group of nerds care. But the big majority don't give a crap. They bought a phone based someone they needed (facebook, twitter, music whatever) - and they are happy with it.
They don't check for updates every 30 seconds. Nor do they keep replacing the phone.
They keep it and use it for a long time and are happy with what they have. If there suddenly is an update that is an unexpected surprise - they have no idea of version numbers or nick names and they don't care.
