Google has brainwashed many people with its strangely inscrutable "Don't be evil" campaign. So much so that those folks start dreaming divine fantasies about Google's impeccable loyalty to its dear beta customers' rights online. And start making statements that make remote business sense but none too practical. Keep an open eye on both sides of Google. Its not a saintly or charitable venture. Its just lesser of the evils.

Atleast 'try to' verify what you write.

Now, less than 0.1 percent of the huge Indian cellular subscriber base uses VM. Thats another point all together. But why bother to spend Rs. 3 per minute for an abstruse service when you can send an SMS for free (with most plans) or just leave a miss call (culturally de-facto method to ping the other cellular party in India). Business environment has different requirements. But in India so far I've very very rarely seen VM being used prominently. Email leads the way along with normal voice calls.

You can cut down on support explicitly. Its OK. Quake community is very smart and big. It can easily support newcomers. But the legit media is something always desirable - it is convenient and trustworthy. But please sell it cheap. Around 4-5$. You will easily find lots of CD pressers and distributors to take away all the logistic pains from you.

And there would be assured buys of millions of legit cheap Q3A CDs by enthusiastic gamers worldwide. Its already a must-have game in your game collection anyways. Every body will be happy.

Maybe, its a business decision to stop issuing more Q3A CDs. So please make another one to start issuing it again. It won't make you losses. No way. And gamers would be happy.

The core game is awesome & kick-ass. 3rd party mods, addons, maps, etc make it ever so expandable. The community will always have some innovative way to modify it. Look at 'WoP'! Amazing!

  25. Re:Gallium Nitride on A Monster LED Array For Irresponsible Fun · · Score: 1

Are you referring to the CPU heatsink fan thats attached to the LED array in the article or to an actual installation of an LED array with fan?

In real world deployments, AFAIK, the LED array is actually fitted with a big heatsink and not a fan. That is sufficient to keep it within the limits of operating temperature. In places with low temperatures, even thats not required and installation is fairly trivial. Moreover, because of the relatively low power consumption, it won't dissipate so much heat as to blow itself up.

I guess one of the reasons Portland, Oregon went after it in such a big way is because the climate there suited the operation of LED lamps without raising too much temperature of the unit itself. Look at the operational savings they made!

Also, I think that the lamp shown in the article is not the exact one used at traffic signals atleast. They are different and use bigger LEDs, which are spaced on a larger array and have different energy ratings.
