    Cool story, but why did they name them butt kernels? There isn't anyone who hears "rump" and thinks "ah yes; the smaller portion left behind after the majority has been removed."

    I think they must have made a scale error when rendering their graph. In the article they introduced this latency tool in (Oct 2015); you'll see that even the best PCIe SSDs tested had their 85th percentile at 100 microseconds: http://www.pcper.com/image/vie...

    Additionally; the far right of the graph in this article is labeled as "1ms", when if the scale was reasonable, it'd be 1us. I suspect they just forgot about microseconds when doing their conversion.

    They also cite a 6ns overhead due to the RAID controller - I wouldn't be surprised if this was also actually 6us.

    Sweatshops can't be inhumane because the workers are there voluntarily? Children of the 1800s getting coal lung was fine because they needed the nickel they got paid to help feed their families?

    You're missing the larger picture here. It's entirely possible for rational self-interested actors to be between a rock and a hard place.

    Do we think it's fine that seniors have to cart around kids for 50 hours a week to afford rent? That's the discussion we're having here, and you can leave your grade-school randite truisms at the door and engage like an adult.

    The article clarifies:

    Touraine said the drug was meant to act on the body’s endocannabinoid system, which deals with pain. Earlier reports had suggested that the drug contained cannabinoids, an active ingredient found in cannabis plants, but the minister said it did not contain the drug or any derivatives of it.

    Which, if you click through, is why the study performed subjective tests; by asking viewers to rate the quality of several videos at several bitrates on a 10-point scale in a series of tests. They found that PSNR systematically underestimated the perceived quality of H.265 (relative to H.264).

    Sure, go shame everyone who doesn't want to spend $600 on a VR headset. Tell them that they should feel bad for having a lower income or different spending priorities than you. That every person who would have considered buying it for $200 should be ashamed of themselves for not buying it at $600.

    But even after you do that, the game devs are still going to have to deal with the fact that the install-base (and hence, their revenue), is gonna be a fraction of what they expected. And your "Well clearly the poor consumers are bad, so they should feel bad" discussion points are going to do fuck-all for solving any issues for the devs who invested time and money in developing for this system. (Which, if you'll recall, is who this whole reply-chain is about).
