in the world of pro audio production, there's jack. it started in the open for gnu/linux and is being ported to os x. the idea is that you can route audio signals freely from one application to another. it's a great idea and is unique to the oss world.
i use ms all day long. i code vb, asp and t-sql. i can never find what i'm looking for in the msdn stuff. their site is a complete and utter waste of my time. if you can't search by cryptic error message numbers, then what is the point?

"honest"? i don't know that i get that. there's nothing to be "honest" about. there's an agreement that all parties enter into before any transactions take place. you want to sell? fine. these are your terms. you want to buy? fine. these are your terms. an agreement like that has nothing to do with honesty. remember, this is a for-profit entity. they set their terms and if you want to do buisness with them, you agree to said terms. it's really that simple. if you don't like those terms, don't agree to them and take your buisness elsewhere. no big deal.
If a seller rips you off, why shouldn't the same rules apply to ebay as they do in other criminal situations?
oh i dunno, because the seller agreed to the terms when s/he clicked "i agree" before becoming a seller? it's ebay's site. they can do as they wish. remember, ebay is a private company and not a right/privilidge. entering into a buisness agreement with them is the same as it is with anyone else. there are terms and both parties agree to them before buisness can be done.
...where are all of the loopholes that you just know are in there. maybe i'm a bit cynical by nature, but there has to be at least one big enough to drive a truck through. i know about the survey thing and the non-profit, but where's the real built-in escape for that $11k fine?
for your taxes. unless you are someone who is down with law in more than a passing way, i'd advocate checking on the law again. i'm pretty sure that the court wouldn't order it if they couldn't.
that's the beauty of multiple distros. if gentoo's politics make you happy and debian's don't, then your path is clear. i happen to prefer the "clean" way that debian does things, so i will stick with it. if i ever change my mind, there are many others to choose from.
the idea that a society can continue on in anything that resembles a healthy fashion without art or creative work is insane. would they continue to operate physically? perhaps. but i doubt it.
plenty of sociteties lasted quite well without aspirin, assembly lines or indoor plumbing but none that we know of have gone on without art.
no. i don't think that anyone needs aol (at least no one that i have met). what i am saying is that a person who would buy this distro would. and by virtue of even mentioning a command line for uninstalling something, you have removed yourself from their target audience.
i was just pointing out that this distro probably isn't for you. it's for people who pick up an aol cd at the target check out because it looks like a good idea.
well, if you are asking that question, then the base that you want isn't lindows. this is a distro for my computer-impaired relatives, not for someone who can compile a kernel without docs.
i write to my congress-critters almost weekly and most of the time i get a form letter back that relates to a bill that i never even referenced. congress-critters do not read their mail. they are paid to, but they don't. i believe that my representatives know as much about what i want as i know about the finer points of algae reproduction (read: zero). keep writing your "well throught [sic] out letters" (and i know that i will...i just can't get enough of the cutie at the post office!) and wait to see the change. hope you don't have any plans for the foreseeable future. disagree with the article all you want, but it's the first plan of action i've heard of yet...
i know that we all WISH that this were true. but the fact of the matter is that this is just business as usual.
i would love it if seeing a boldly worded security bulletin would phase ANYONE that was not in IT, but it doesn't. i work with a lot of 'normals' and they just clickity-click-click along wihtout a care in the world.
none of the people on my regular tech support rounds (fam & friends) will have taken care of this. good thing i have a week off for x-mas...always fun to patch, reboot, patch, reboot...
i was really REALLY hesitant to jump on the transgaming bandwagon. like many, i guess i have conflicting desires: i don't want to support companies that only do win32 AND i really REALLY love gaming.
it was my desire to rid my life of that heinous win partition that finally pushed me to toss $15 at transgaming. i have been VERY pleased with the results.
my rationalizations: first, gaming companies are not going to give up writing games for windows. most of them won't even produce for the mac, so how can i expect them to pick up linux anytime soon? loki, loki, loki...save it. i have loki games all over the place, but last time i checked, loki doesn't do diablo. and that is basically ALL i do.
so i use winex, which gets me diablo. call me a pragmatist, but i like to use my computer for whatever i choose. the workaround that is wine exists and i don't mind using it.
i know this all sounds rather flamish, but i am trying to point out that pragmatism certainly won't kill anyone in this arena. i buy linux games whenever they are available rather than their windows siblings. but these are games we're talking about. free as in speech doesn't really apply (in my mind) and they certainly aren't critical to my (or anyone else's) existence. that's why they are called games.
will my use of winex change the balance of gaming? nope. if i only buy games made for linux, will THAT tip things? nope. it would take more gamers than linux has users to do that. is winex good or bad for linux? i don't know. if we suddenly had more games for linux, would it necessarily draw more people to it? i don't know. what i do know is that until the games i play come in linux flavors, winex it is.
disclaimer: all i use at home is debian and the only non-free software i ever run is game related...preaching to the converted and all that...
hope that helps.

let the seller beware.
make
sudo make install
that was it. it's gorgeous. ardour + jack + pure-data = everything any audio head will ever need.
and of course keep your eyes peeled for jamin. not announced yet, but incredible...
yeah it does mean something. they had a linux distro too, remember? distributed under the gpl. they shot themselves.

so i say: preach on debian!
that doesn't mean that we shouldn't though...
just kidding! rabid ld fan here...
let the ot mods begin...

so cooking the hog feed has nothing to do with the quality of the hog feed? um...or hog feed has little to do with cooking the hog feed? wha?
hesitant? maybe until they buy a license...
what's next? ask slashdot: who has a bigger crank? bill gates or linus? discuss...
um...they just mailed the press release dude. anyone who would have stats would be from transgaming.
moz, galeon, etc. have had it forever.
never played tribes 2, huh? i'm sorry, most of us know it as the "unhandled exception" game.
...now dammit, THIS one i wouldn't mind being true...
