I disagree. I would think that stabbing someone in the back could also be done just by getting the target into a position where the killer can make him feel good with a hug. A pat on the back, some support, a...SHARP STABBING PAIN OF DEFEAT!
Yes. Russia might object in the same way that the RIAA might continue its piracy litigation campaign, no matter how absurdly expensive it becomes or how absurdly high the judgments are.
Come on, RIAA - try to take me down. I can't lose.
Too bad that's only true from a certain point of view. It only works like that because if they strike you down, you will become more powerful than they can possibly imagine.
Thank you, Slashdot, for not noting the storage capacity of these tiny SSD's in the summary. I actually had to go RTFA to find out the information I wanted (4-64 GB).
Er, it was a clever ploy to make Slashdotters read the article, right? It wasn't just coincidence that you left out this important piece of information?
I didn't get either vaccine last year (that is, neither H1N1 nor the regular one), and I haven't caught either flu. Basic sanitary practices like washing my hands when I use the bathroom and refusing to share drinks seem to work in today's world.
If this isn't on the scale of the Solar Superstorm of 1859, then we're probably fine.
And it's probably not on that scale, because if it was, then it probably would have hit days before Slashdot heard about it.
On a side note, it's gonna be lulz if tomorrow's day of the TeraGrid conference is affected by this. There's a programming contest scheduled for tomorrow, so we need computers and networking.:D
My high school had an ABCDE grading scale in which E was failure and the low D was a 70%, just like the low C in TFA. 69% and below was considered failure. This has been my personal standard ever since, even through college.
This should be the universal standard throughout the country, IMO.
Southwest, which has a reputation for stellar customer service
Do they? Last I checked, they hate people and they do not enjoy making money. First, there was the Kevin Smith incident, and more recently, there was an incident where a skinny woman was kicked off a plane so a fat person could have two seats. In what world is this "stellar" customer service?
I think it's the first one, but only because I'm pretty sure it can be rephrased thus:
"He proved that paradox-free time travel is possible through postselection of quantum teleportation by postselecting the condition that quantum mechanics is non-linear."
However, I believe this phrasing assumes that the probability of quantum mechanics being non-linear is nonzero, so if I just divided by zero, I apologize.
Expect to lose your first post status as soon as one of them succeeds.
"The Possibility of Paradox-Free Time Travel"
It would be a paradox if someone other than that AC were to get first post. Obviously, the only reason he got first post to begin with is because he already has a postselection time machine. Or at least, he must acquire one at some point in time, and uses it to make FP on this story.
While what you say is completely true, if it is Microsoft, I'm not sure if the company will ever recover from the resulting poor public image. I imagine that if it was a Microsoft bluescreen, the anti-Microsoft battle cry would turn into something like this:
"Don't use Windows! It has the potential to cause an apocalypse when it crashes!"
tl;dr version? - They're exactly like us, except they're stupid.
I'm not sure if I feel better or worse with this new knowledge. Certainly, if I had known this 4-15 years ago, maybe I could have convinced my enemies that we were basically the same thing, and for that reason, we should have been working together.
Ya know: If I picked-up the morning paper and read that someone shot the RIAA CEO in the head, I think I'd actually smile.....
Why would you do that when you have a perfectly good Slashdot RSS feed somewhere on your computer?
Or do you mean you'd want to hear about it as quickly as possible, instead of a couple of days after the fact?...yeah, then why would you choose the newspaper of all things, instead of reading the live updates on the Internet?
...if you feel about something so strongly that you are willing to sign a petition about it, you shouldn't be hiding your name. Stop being a coward, and own up to your opinions/decisions.
Tomorrow: Slashdot removes the "Post Anonymously" option, due to the public nature of comment threads.

Fire? As in, the hydrogen reacted with the oxygen in the air?
Oh no! Water we going to do now?
Why the hell would you pay for it again?
Because you have an iProduct, a dollar, and a need for instant gratification.

Now we just need a lengthy forum argument and we'll have a perpetual motion machine!
Good idea! I'll start:
Vim > Emacs
I was thinking the same thing.

It's only going to create history if there is no flaw in the proof. If Deolalikar missed something, then this is all hype.

Also, brb, building a TARDIS.

Do you think you have a piece that's more "news for nerds" than this? Go submit it! Right now!

I see. Sorry about my ignorance; I'm a massive Doctor Who fanboy.
Um...no, unless you're looking for social equality between the humans and the Cybermen.

Stereotypes may be stupid, but they are generally based on some fact.
Why aren't we helping the fish help themselves?
Because Western Society is still too busy thinking of the children?
