  2. Re:They both have Cell processors... on Sony Says Nobody Will Ever Use All the Power of a PS3 · · Score: 1

You are confused, MS and Sony used 2 different IBM processors. The processor in the XBox is based off of the PPC 97XX chipset which is not a cell processor but a multi-core processor. The processor in the PS3 is the IBM Cell Broadband Engine (BE) Processor, which is another beast altogether. Given that both processors are highly modified for the consoles, I would say they probably have similar performance specs for the current crop of games. The XBox probably has slightly better graphics, because they are using a beefier graphics processor. But the PS3 should blow the XBox out of the water when it comes to parallel processing (more things moving on the screen at the same time). By the way, the Wii uses the P5 7XX processor, I would have to say the real winner of this round of console wars has been IBM.

This is the challenge presented to us by God, to figure out whats right and whats wrong in any given situation and to act accordingly.

By using a product with support included they are assuring that if anything happens to you they can still get the support they need. As ridiculous as it sounds this may have been the plan all along, the RIAA has been caught in conspiracies before (price fixing, making illegal deals with radio stations, not paying the artists, etc...).

I just wish studios would wake up and realize how much of a drain the *AA's are becoming on them, and how much more they could be making if they just disbanded that huge lumbering money sponge.

We have still managed to create a site that is constantly getting kudos from our customers and the big boys in the company, yet we havent sacrificed any usability by following standards. As far as I am concerned ActiveX, OWC, Ajax and Flash are mechanisms lazy people use so they dont have to think about the tough problems (of course I am not including people working in legacy environments in this statement, you dont have control of what was implemented in the past). Most people use way too much flair on their website, keep it simple stupid, google got to where they are today by giving the customers just what they needed and nothing more.

Its when he tries to actually do the job he spent so much time campaigning for that he falls flat on his face. I remember as I was growing up Republicans where definately more politically aware than they are today. I could ask just about any Republican what their current candidates platform was and they could tell me and they would all agree. Today if I ask 5 different Republicans what George Bush's stance on topics are, I will get 5 different answers (and they are usually contratictory to what he himself actually said). Republicans these days dont want to think about politics they just want a canned and scripted candidate that says what they want to hear, and they dont seem to care if that candidate lies to them or not.

We should adopt a placement system within public schools. I think Germany has a system like this. Kids have to go to grade school to learn the basics. After that they are required to take a test and they are either placed in a trade school or allowed to go on to higher education. I understand there are many problems with this (wrong placement, the obvious problems with nationalized testing, etc) but there are models to learn from and improve on. Most of the reason the disruptive kids are disruptive is because they are bored, why would I need to learn calculus or history beyond the basics when I know I am going to work at my dads auto shop when I am done with school. We need to get the kids that are more interested in getting out in workforce than going to school, out in the workforce. Teach them the basics they will need to know to survive then train them to work, so we are forcing them to learn things that they really wont use the rest of their lives. We are also forcing the students who may not be the best in the school environment to stay well beyond their capacity to within that environment. Some people learn more effectively by doing.

They wouldnt be offering protection to these companies unless they thought they had a viable threat. Microsoft will go through the whole embrace, extend, extinguish phase whether they work or not, this is what they do. They are probably trying to establish Linux as a proprietary OS in the minds of the customers, this will somewhat even up the playing field for them. Or Microsoft is planning on filing one bogus patent suit after another (SCO got away with it) until the customers think that linux is riddled with patent issues and lose interest. Debian, Ubuntu and all the free implementations of linux should be preparing their legal teams now for what is coming. I have a feeling the first real shots are going to be fired in this war (up until now its just been "My OS is better than yours" kind of marketing/fanboy rhetoric). There should at least be a review board formed to actively find any patent issues in Linux (FSF, Groklaw collaboration?), and to react and prove or discredit any accusations made.
