We have the highest worker productivity in the world, and we don't even have the newest or most updated machinery. We just work harder, and more hours.
I can't speak for "the rest of the world" but as an American expat living in New Zealand, I can say that 100% of the people I have spoken with about the American political system are stunned that more Americans don't seem to realize what a cartoonish, dangerous joke it has become. No one is laughing, per se; there's mostly a great deal of concern mixed with a bit of contempt.
This is just my experience as the "go-to" American in my circle of friends/colleagues/etc.
I have permanent residency (and thus voting rights), and I think tha**THE GOVERNMENT OF NEW ZEALAND IS DOING THE RIGHT THING**his is a load o**JOHN KEY IS A GREAT MAN**ollocks.
No, and it shouldn't be possible. Using an alias online is just smart practice, but something's got to be done about the rampaging herds of Internet Fuckwads (greater or lesser). How appropriate would it be for past online shithattery to come back and bite the shithatterists.
"I see here you've got an MBA, Mr. Douchesuit, but can you explain why you had an AOL account for 8 years, and what led you to choose the handle T!ts0rG+FO?"
I shipped a computer, some hard drives and a couple of lcd monitors from Thailand to New Zealand by ship. I packed it in original packaging when possible, and the computer (DAW) was in a rackmount chassis in a metal studio case. Padded it with a couple of blankets. Everything was fine, except the motherboard died about a week after arrival. Could have been the shipping, could have been the arbitrariness of life. It was a couple of years old at that time.
I tend to read by seeing an entire line at a time. The page you referenced sort of forced me to read left to right, parsing as I go. I'm not dyslexic either, but I can see how the font may help people by encouraging a "normal" cadence.
Try installing new hardware without doing your homework to make sure chipsets are supported or at least work-around-able. That's what "a lot of work to keep working" means to me. Windows? You could find a driver for a USB-powered Twizzler.
Wizards of the Coast and parent company Hasbro really shat the bed with 4e, and WOTC have pretty much admitted they've alienated just about every demographic in their fanbase. The grognards were put off by the MMO styling, the simulationists hated the dissociated mechanics, the math trolls...well, they'll never be happy. The icing on the cake was the red box (it's 4.5e, but it's not). Basically they had to go back to the drawing board because Paizo, makers of Pathfinder RPG, have been eating WOTC's lunch for the past year or so. Plus, I mean, who doesn't like a slutty cash grab?
What's the German word for "the boner you get from too much Schadenfreude"? Speaking as an American expat living in NZ: fuck the US government and its thuggish international corporate rent-a-cop policies.
You and busyqth are both glass-half-empty sort of folks, aren't ya? Fair enough. My intended emphasis was on the requirement of electoral progress for politico-economic progress, in contrast to the Marxist-Leninist (big-c Communist) requirement of political violence. Violence it is then.
I don't see how that has anything to do with racism in modern Rastafari faith. Haile Selassie wasn't a Rasta either, but his positive (and anti-racist) influence on the movement is patently obvious. There are a vocal few who claim to follow Rasta who also propagate hatred against gay people and/or whites, but in general the movement is pacifistic and vehemently anti-racist. Garvey died in 1940, a time when the KKK still rode strong in the US. It's short-sighted to look at his beliefs through modern eyes, and it's equally short-sighted to paint modern Rastafari with the same brush.
Wow. That's an incredibly reductionist point of view. Never mind the fact that Garvey WASN'T RASTAFARIAN, and that Haile Selassie (considered the earthly manifestation of Jah[God]) frequently spoke out against racism. You might want to actually speak to a devout Rasta before smearing the faith with such a generalization. On second thought, reasoning with a Ras might force you to reconsider some of your misconceptions. Never mind.
Having lived in Thailand, land of software piracy and smiles, I can tell you that people there would rather buy a pirated disc, EVEN IF IT COST MORE than than the legitimate version. Thai-produced software is extremely inexpensive, but people are so used to buying knock-offs it's a force of habit. Not sure if that speaks to the point you were making but it's an interesting anecdote, AFAIC.
I seriously doubt there is a a writer in this day and age that possesses the linguistic skills Tolkien had. At least with the first 4 (oh wait, 5) movies there was a plot extant to diverge from. And it was obvious that Peter Jackson et al took more care making the cuts than some would have.
I expect the next several movies will an abortion of Star-Wars-esque proportions. Ooh, rhyme.
Slingshot is a budget ISP that has a very bad reputation...It is very rare to ring an ISP & speak to someone who lives in NZ AND speaks perfect English.
I don't doubt they've got a bad rep. However, they do sell data blocks if you exceed your monthly cap, and if you don't want to buy them they scale you back to "dialup speed". Off-peak time (2am-8am for my plan) is free, so that's when I schedule my torrent client, etc. As far as customer service goes, they've all been Kiwi so far. It's just a shame I've needed to call them so often!
Actually if you factor in the landline (who uses those anymore?) it's pushing $100 NZ. I've got a package for $80/mo. using a dedicated VoIP line. It's not a big savings, but it's better than nothing. The upside is that the speed's uncapped, so I get 12 mbps or so down. It's a big contrast with Thailand, where they don't really have data caps but the fastest DSL sub they offer is around 8 mbps, severely bottlenecked outside SE Asia.

Nope. Norway, Luxembourg and Ireland all have higher GDP/hour worked. http://stats.oecd.org/Index.as...

Speaking as a pen-and-paper RPGer, ours is by no means the hobbiest community. Miniatures wargamers and model railroaders are way hobbier than we are.

Irony, thy name is Anonymous Coward.

Most people would consider the radius of the Sun to end where the mass of burning fusion ends...
To be frank, a large minority of peopleare so ignorant, they probably think the sun is the back of the moon.
Is that rape, or the more serious rape-rape

I remember when I thought things could be boiled down to a meaningless three-word sentence. Then I turned 6.

small-c communism is only possible with completely free and open elections and an informed, participatory electorate.
No, he means that the previous poster's defense of Sopa are the opening words of a text of a medieval manuscript or early printed book.
Citation needed. I can pull platitudes out of my ass too.

I'm right smack in Auckland CBD. I can burn through my monthly data cap like shit through a goose. Woohoo.
