...since, in my opinion, only those who are geeky enough to install evolution-x modchip and xmame (uploading all their pirated ROMs) are potential customers.
And they would prefer XBox - not only it runs xmame (and you can copy all your roms from your PC), but it also run Splinter Cell, Halo and many other games you might want to play some day.
The main gripe of these MBA's et al seems to be that their counterparts graduating across the Taiwan Strait in China seem to be lined up for fat salaries (China style) even before (now where do we remember this from?) graduation or (horror) are even dropping out of college just for the money.
And I thought only one man did this before those Chinese MBA's.
...such as widely heard Hip-Hop music? I'm really surprised it didn't make to this comparision. Even more: I was really curious if I'm lame to store all my songs in mp3 format.
Don't forget that car audio plays only mp3, by the way.
It sounds like the world has turned wrong side. Here in Poland we have only one telco capable of delivering ADSL connections on a massive scale. It's our monopolist and we've got to live with it.
First thing they did when they've introduced ADSL service to the masses was to impose upload and download limits, dependent of the connection speed you opted for. My DSL, which has rates like 256kbps downstream and 64kbps upstream, had 5gb download limit and 1gb upload limit, and then you had to pay for each additional megabyte. You wasn't able to check it you've exceeded or not yet. Higher connections had bigger limits.
Then they decided to allow their customers unlimited access. It turned out that they had only about 2,000 customers afret six months of having this service, while they've expected to have at least 50,000. Pretty impressive figure.
And don't forget, that the basic connection costs about us $70/mo, and it's pretty expensive here. You have also to wait for techies for another month and then deal with impossible level of stupidity and arrogance on tech support hotlines, if anything goes wrong.
So don't bash. It's not that bad if you have a choice.
In Europe we have GPRS (aka 2.5G, or Generation 2 and-a-half) system. GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is an extension to widely-deployed GSM system, which allows you to be online for as long as your cell phone is turned on.
The only thing that hurts, is that you pay for data transmitted, not for duration. That's good unless you really want to do something more with your cell phone, that just check local cinema's "now playing" web page via crappy WAP.
I guess we're gonna wait for 3G for some time more. Here in Europe, every country tried to maximize revenue paid by cell operators for spectrum band that can be used to offer UMTS. But prices were so horrible and technology is so weak, that we'll have to wait until they get enough money from current installations.
And they don't hurry, because why offer more and make costs, if one can offer less with no investments in new infrastructure?
There's going to be one big problem, regarding copy-protection shemes. As we all know, Safedisc is for PC only, PS2 uses their own DVD copy protection (and their own bootloaders, which must be present on DVD), Xbox probably uses something different.
If there was no copy protection, there'd be no games for sale.

Well, looks like some1 at slashdot has just recently upgraded fortune... or maybe f**ed something up in slashcode:

Shutting down OpenNAP servers is just pointless. I've got the right (or, at least -- here in Poland) to print names of my favourite songs on my t-shirt. Why can't i print them on my computer, in a -- sort of -- file, that is available for public?
OpenNAP is something like printing names of bands on t-shirts: I am showing the world what I own, or what I like, or whatever I want -- and I don't violate copyright just because of that. OpenNAP only shares some information, not songs -- that's why I believe RIAA has got no right to shut down servers.
Or, maybe we'll shut down google for "warez windows me download" or "naked teens having fun free"?
Even if you are Polish nationality, it's almost impossible to get a polish domain... the only company that registers them, NASK, is bureaucratic, monopolistic, sluggish firm.
So... if you want to get domain in.pl, you have to know whom to pay bribes. (pardon, extra-costs).
Stanislaw Lem, but, hell, not that Solaris again! It's his WORST novel EVER written.
Perhaps you could try Cyberiad.
Well, if SMS fails to be delivered you STILL pay for sending it - it's pay-per-event, not pay-per-delivered-message.
How come that everyone here (in US!) disagrees with importance of SMS messaging, while using AOL (or some thoer MSN) Instant Messenger and chat rooms?
SMS is like AIM or ICQ, but with me for all the day. That's why we here in Europe use them.

Presently-used Variable Bitrate does almost that same, but employing only one codec for a song. That's MUCH easier to play, encode and... share.

"Alternative Wireless Broadband for your Neighborho"
looks like another slashcode update is needed. But don't include XSS feature this time, folks.
And it would also be great, if you put the source for this quotation. Really.
"Honey, come back to bed, darling. You was supposed to turn of the light, not play Mineswepper on our new switch"
Whoops, looks like it's just yet another slashdotted site.
Go, check google's cache people.
...does Slackware still want you to register at linux counter with that little "magic" e-mail message you receive as root?

Hi,
Wireless connectivity is great, however, 900MHz in Europe
won't work -- this frequecny is occupied by
the GSM mobile telephony network.
Even if you are Polish nationality, it's almost impossible to get a polish domain... the only company that registers them, NASK, is bureaucratic, monopolistic, sluggish firm.

Free the chix! It wasn't a guy. It was a semaphore.
Maybe you should just try to change KDEHOME directory
to null... it's normal when running KDE2 apps on KDE1.x.x
