  1. Time Lens? Not even close. on "Time Telescope" Could Boost Fibre-Optic Communications · · Score: 0

If I read the article correctly, all they are doing is compressing the data on the storage medium (the carrier wave) so they can fit more on it.

Hmm, maybe I should throw out this explanation using some basic ideas.
If your car is 12' long and travels at 100mph, think of that as the standard.
Now what this guy has done is figured out a way to make your car 3' long (while still holding the exact same stuff) and it still only travels at 100mph.
He calls it a "time telescope" because if you paint a finish line on the road, the shorter car arrives at the finish line at the exact same time as the longer car, but it takes it less time to completely cross it because it's shorter...
    Yeah, I'm thinking he's an #@&*$ also.

  2. Diabetic Tax on The Fresca Rebellion · · Score: 1

    Yes, I said Diabetic Tax.

Now, what happens if you're a diabetic? You consume non-sugar sweetness substitutes. You avoid the sugar in the first place. So this bozo goes and taxes your 'diet' foods because he's afraid it might cause a non-diabetic to eat even more sugary stuff than they would without the diet stuff.... Not bloody likely you moron, and now you've pissed off the growing number of diabetics. With the 'logic' that cretin uses in that one paragraph, he might as well tax diabetic medication because it indirectly increases you ability to tolerate, and thus consume, more sugar.

Somebody kick that scum out of office and into the deepest darkest metaphorical well of forgotten politicians they have so nobody ever hears any of his stupid ideas again.

As a type 2 diabetic, I'm not exactly unbiased in this issue. As someone allergic to milk, who dislikes alcohol, and is living someplace where the tap water just isn't desirable, I don't find a lot of other drink choices. I'll admit I occasionally have a real candy bar, but I have to be careful with that stuff. As to the non-sugar replacement candies, a lot are horrible (most peanut butter cups), but some (mostly the hard candies) are just as good. There's already a premium price on those, and if this idiot gets his way, it'll get much worse. And yes, I know he's 'targeting' beverages, but he's doing it by talking about sugar and sweeteners. It's a very very short leap to all foods with those in them. And when politicians are talking taxes, it's not a question of IF they'll make the jump, but rather HOW FAR they can actually go before hitting a brick wall...

The targets are trained individuals (often military or police) who are in limited quantities (never seen more than a dozen at once) and are not panicking because they know exactly what's going to happen, exactly what to do, and how to evacuate the test area. That is as much of an unrealistic situation as using the film work of a Hollywood stuntman to show that it's safe to fall down stairs.

They want to make it not do that, so it's in a contained area, and might even be possible to extract it, or at least stopping it from making everything within a huge area into Chernobyl Nitelights.

I would have to agree with you.

Additionally, the article (trademark link expired) indicates it's for "a quacking noise made by tour guides and tour participants by use of duck call devices" which raises a few red flags for me. The activities or performers shouldn't be relevant to the sound if the sound is the Trademark. It's like saying the sound is not important, it's what's causing the sound that we are trademarking, so nobody riding a duck (if tourist or tourguide) can use duck calls.

And second, let's face it, they just trademarked a bunch of people making random noise with duck calls. Not audibly different from any other group of random people with duck calls. Have you ever been to an Oregon Ducks Football game? (University of Oregon) They've been using duck calls at the games since Walt Disney was still alive and gave them permission to use Donald Duck as their mascot.
