Exactly... The riving knife is at least as important to saw safty as the stopping feature. The absolute worst table saw accidents come from kickback, not fingers touching the blade.
Riving knives protect from most types of kick-back, and yet the saw-stop is one of the few US saws to have them.
I think the cop was dealing with an a-hole obstructing justice, and things got out of hand. Note that we're just talking verbal abuse; the policeman didn't beat the guy with a night stick or anything.
The guy probably is an a-hole, but he wasn't obstructing justice, or he would be in jail (rightfully so). The cops didn't have a search warrant, and had no probably cause for entering (they're not disputing that), which means that they should have left when he told them to.
As an example, the CA Highway Patrol used to have the policy (might still, but I don't live there anymore): they never ask permission to search or inspect, they either get a warrant or have probable cause. I think its a good policy, it removes any confusion about the issue, and the cops at least get a chance to behave in a professional manor.
police will often have sort of "raid" days where they go out and have a list of people they're going to raid. It's a big deal if you tip someone off
Then maybe they should rethink their strategy. They don't get to violate the constitution just because they're too stupid to come up with a better way to carry out search warrants.
lived for 60+ years and they didnt die of heart attacks, simply of old age.
Old age? Do they put that on death certificates?
If you have a primitave understanding of medicine, and your king drops dead at the ripe old age of 60, what else are you going to say? They most certainly died of something, everyone does, it just gets more likely with every passing year.
Gil Amelio definatly deserves credit. He made the decision to purchase NeXT and create OSX, and dump the previous mess (copland). Without that Jobs wouldn't have been around...
paying to ride on the bus or train? that way only the people who use it have to pay for it.
Except that the majority of mass transit systems are subsidised by Federal, State and local government. So I do pay even if I don't use it.
I don't know what percentage of road infrastructure gas taxes cover, or how it relates to the percentage of mass transit costs covered by the fare they charge. It would be interesting to know and see who's getting the bigger 'free ride'.
OK, so it probably still be motorists, but the numbers would be interesting.
It's too bad that Starbuck's Coffee tastes... like shit.
Its because Starbucks isn't a coffee company, they're a milk company.
Nobody goes to Starbucks for coffee they go for those milk concoctions with some coffee on top. Its probably why their coffee sucks- they burn the shit out of it so when its diluted 10:1 with milk you can still taste it.
You're missing the point. The top investigative journalist at ABC is on the 'watch list' so they can figure out who the leaks are. Unless they have warrents the government is way over the line.
This is really the problem... My credit card companies email me _all the time_ with links back to their website. Its a crazy practice that conditions you to fall for phishing.
This might have been the case at one time, but its pretty easy to get full-spectrum flourescent bulbs that put out light that is very similar to daylight, and easier to work under than incandescent.
I didn't mean to imply otherwise. Antitrust laws obviously don't work under the current administration since MS lost the trial and then the DOJ essentially asked for the case to be dropped.
Hopefully the reason for dropping the case is the one you state. The other reasons aren't as happy.
Its only an illegal monopoly if they use their posistion to stop competition. There's nothing that says they can't be the only one producing consoles...
Conversely, if the ability to have Windows and Mac OS X on one machine sells more Macs, the increased marketshare would increase the number of developers willing to target the Mac natively.
Of course this could also have the effect of completely killing the Mac game market*. Even games that are currently cross-platform might have been released Windows only if there was a simple way to dual boot to XP.
*I know the market isn't that big, but some things like WoW and Quake and such are nice to have.
Ironically, denying the government access to information already freely shared in the corporate world only stacks the deck towards giving corporations the upper hand over government.
Maybe you weren't aware, but corps only have the power that the government lets them have. The government is vastly more powerful than any coporate entity and has essentially unlimited resources. If you make a list of organzations to be wary of the government is _always_ at the top of the list. The only thing that holds them back is accountability to the people (I won't debate how well that works;-) )
He needs to do his taxes and turbotax and other software is only available for windows now even if the marketshare is higher.
I'll just repeat this in case someone misses the ACs who posted below:
TurboTax works on Mac!! They stopped selling different versions a few years ago. Now when you buy TurboTax you get the Windows AND Mac version on the same disk.
BTW- TurboTax is _much_ better this year (at least the Mac version is). Its faster and better organized than in years past...
I always felt that his rightful throne awaits at Sony.
Maybe you haven't noticed, but Sony Electronics is a mediocre company relying on a name they made in the 80s. They're under the control of a media company from which they'll never escape. They have nothing to offer that Apple can't do for themselves.
If Jobs is ever running Sony (Electronics) it will because Sony (Media) sells the division to Apple...

I think you're missing my point.
I'd rather be mugged by Gannon Jr, than be incarcerated by the State for 27 years for protecting my home and exercising my basic civil rights.
I don't want my tax dollars going to people like that.
I'd rather it went to them than people like Detective Karlis and Chief Hefferan.

How about:
"Hold me like you did by the lake on Naboo."
That's a timeless classic that I've heard quoted a lot.
Of course its a joke about how crappy the move was... the audience even laughed when she said it.
I appreciate it has it's uses (laptop + toilet)
You didn't wire your bathroom with cat5?!?!
Flourescent tubes give off a crappy light

No use pretending that Apple Records is not an active concern, it's obviously untrue.
Its not entirely unclear what you against.
uh- I think you misread Comp for Corp...

With a 4-digit UID you ought to know the difference between patent, trademark, & copyright by now.
With a 5-digit UID you ought to know that most people will _never_ grasp the difference.
