  1. Cheap What? on Paris Hilton Recruited to Publicize Linux · · Score: 1

I briefly misread the phrase 'cheap stunt' and thought it was highly inappropriate for the main page. Accurate, but still inappropriate.

Reminds me of the Smurfs. Obligatory Family Guy quote...

Smurf 1: Yo, you have a good time last night?
    Smurf 2: Smurftacular!
Smurf 1: Yeah I saw you leave with Smurfette.
Smurf 2: Oh man, as soon as we got out of the bar, she started smurfing me.
Smurf 1: Shut the smurf up!
    Smurf 2: Yeah!
Smurf 1: Right in the smurfin' parking lot?
    Smurf 2: Smurf yeah!
Smurf 1: Oh that is freakin' smurf.
    Smurf 2: You smurf it.
Smurf 1: That is freakin' smurf
    Smurf 2: Yeah...

  4. Won't be fooled again on Gran Turismo 4 Launch Date · · Score: 3, Funny

With every new Gran Turismo relase I get caught up in the hype. I somehow forgot that I find that series overly complicated and too involved for my gaming habits. It's like I go brain dead the week of the release and go buy the game. I get home, start playing and yell "son of a bitch!".

If you've ever heard Louis Black's candy corn routine, it's pretty much like that.

  5. Re:As good as it is to make money on No More Players for World of Warcraft - For Now · · Score: 1

I play on a low population server and almost never encounter these problems. My recommendation to new players would be to join a low pop server. If you want to make double sure you avoid all lag, join the horde on a low population.

If you go to the Blizzard forum you will walk away thinking you would be better off getting a real life. Don't let this jade you too much.

  6. Re:Good? on Everquest 2 vs. World of Warcraft · · Score: 1

    "consumed your bank account"

That sentiment has always seemed misinformed to me. At max, these games are $15 a month. If you allow yourself to be absorbed at all into the game, you will pass on an at least one activity a month. Instead of going to see a movie or to a bar, you may decide to stay in and play. These games aren't the financial hit people think they are.

  7. Sharp Knees! on Halo 2 Reviews · · Score: 1

Anyone else reminded of a nerd that sees a beautiful lady and proclaims he would not talk to her because of her sharp knees?

  8. Re:Kind of annoying, but... on Half Life 2 To Be DVD Only In UK · · Score: 1

I looked a couple months back for a cheap DVD drive at a couple local stores and they didn't even carry dvd drives. All that was available were $80+ dvd writers. Typically this is something that I would buy online but I'm sure many people won't go that route.

  9. Re:Brings up a startling question on MMORPG Circle of Life · · Score: 2, Insightful

I think you are trying to compare apples and oranges. That is like complaining that GTA stopped working because you got rid of your PS2. If you want to continue to use GTA on the PC, then you need to maintain a machine that is capable of running it. The user base of the mmorpg don't have that option.

  10. What about the announcer? on Is America Ready For Competitive Gaming On TV? · · Score: 1

I can't imagine a host being picked out for gaming television that isn't annoying. Hell, there are even several announcers in NFL and the NBA that I find increasingly annoying. Imagine what a gaming show would get? I think I'm having flashbacks of Battle Bots.

  11. AI Issues on ESPN NFL 2K5 Rushes Into Bug Issues · · Score: 1

Can anyone tell me what AI issues are being talked about? The only thing I've noticed so far is a defensive lineman able to run right by an offensive lineman about once a game for a sack when he should have been blocked. The commentary is a bit screwy every now and then but that isn't AI related really.

  12. Nice Spin on Will Wright On The Return Of The Sims · · Score: 1

"It's almost more like a treasure hunt. They want to find all the different kinds of weird dysfunctions in the game that they can.. And every now and then people find the bugs, and they interpret those as cool failures in the Sims terms. For them it's like a treasure hunt, you know."

I'm going to try to pass that one on to my users. I didn't correctly test the product because I didn't want to ruin their treasure hunt.

  13. American Beers on Making Antibubbles in Beer from Belgium · · Score: 2, Funny

That's ridiculous. I'm sure part of my tuition was going to the curriculum I was never even involved in and buildings I probably never even entered. Hell, I barely went into the cafeteria. Doesn't mean I should ask for my money back.

  17. Bah on Big Company on Campus · · Score: 1

I hated not having MS-empowered machines on my campus. The linux / Sun machines were never set up right so most of the functionality was crippled. Plus, when I graduated I came to the real world only to realize the place I worked at used Microsoft products for *everything*, not apps like VI.

  18. What I pay for on Will Internet Users Pay for Content? · · Score: 1

The only content I pay generally fall into two categories: Sites I genuinely want to support and sites that give me information to help me with purchases.

I get such entertainment out of Fark that I felt obligated to give them some money. A site like IGN has reviews that I generally find helpful. I'm sure I have saved money buy reading a review before going out and blindly buying a game.

  19. Seinfeld on Marriage May Tame Genius · · Score: 1

This has similarities to the Seinfeld episode where George became incredibly smart while abstaining. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Crawling under your desk to plug in headphones is indeed batty. Should have went to Radio Shack. For about ten bucks, you can buy a small switch that sticks onto the side of your desk. Just plug both headphones and speakers into it and push a button to flip back and forth.

  23. GTA GT Hybrid on GTA: Vice City Sells 8.5 Million Copies in 3 Months · · Score: 1

I always thought Rockstar should take Grand Theft Auto and mix it with a game like Gran Turismo. Get some actual cars in the game instead of the Cheetah and such. I'd be much more happy swiping a Grand Am than I am a fictional gang car.

  24. Re:Something worth mentioning on Halo for the PC and Mac · · Score: 1

The entire concept behind successful launching of a new console is to promote exclusive games. That is like beating up on Nintendo for not letting Mario be on PS2. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

  25. skipping through commercials on Turner CEO: "PVR Users Are Thieves" · · Score: 1

I think it is important to point out that when you skip through commercials, you can still see the product being advertised. You just don't have to sit through a half minute long advertisement about it that some marketing department thought you would enjoy. If I am going through and see a commercial that I enjoy, I will stop and watch it. Chances are that I would do something else during a bad commercial anyhow. If the Tivo came with a commercial skip button, things might be different(I think that is a easter egg however...).
