I didn't post anything about a spelling error, I noted the incorrect use of the word 'affect' and offered a suggestion for the implied meaning in context.
That's not been my experience at all. I've worked on some fairly large MySQL clusters before. On one particular setup we had a single server running 4 instances of MySQL on different ports as a multi-master replication server for 12 other MySQL servers. Replication worked just fine.
Yup.. My Perl has been semi-broken ever since the 5.6.8_2 release several weeks ago. I had to rebuild all Perl modules myself ( which should have updated themselves as dependancies if they are dependant on a specific version of Perl, right? ), and I still have 4 Perl modules that refuse to rebuild at all. I thought RELEASE was the most stable version of FreeBSD, that's why I upgraded from 4.10. I gotta say 5.3 isn't living up to the name as far as I can tell.
You can't depend on Slashdot to keep you informed about security. For example, phpbbconfigdumper.c was published only hours after the actual PHP exploits were made public.
Easy enough..
You might add an entry to routes.rb and get rid of those fugly category URLs.
Just a thought..
Those screens are the end of the Gentoo Stage 1 install. Tomorrow they will very likely have xorg compiled and a window manager of some sort running.
because Intel Macs are cheaper than what I can piece together in PC x86 form
No way. For the price of an Intel Mac I can still build two very nice Intel x86 machines from scratch.
Ever heard of pricewatch.com?
Word.
You mean "dd if=/dev/tty of=/dev/hda1"?
Destiney is the proper noun I use for my nickname.

What is the Slashdot opinion on World of Warcraft's impact on the gaming industry?
I would write some stuff in response to this question but I don't have time.. my guild is grouping up for another Ragnaros raid attempt.
Is it just me or is John Dvorak trying to become the new John Kats or something?
I generally find and turn off whatever "slick looks" my OS/window manager has on by default.
I need functionality and speed way more than fancy drop shadows and animated thingys all over the place.
Cos its a crappy show.
I agree. TNG was the best of them all. I'd rather watch re-runs of that that any of them. DS9 was pretty good too.
it's time to start providing a binary dist for those who don't have time to waste.
It's already provided, it's called a stage 3 install.
It's assumed that Adobe will redesign the interfaces of key Macromedia products to match its own
That'd be pretty dumb since Macromedia interfaces are much better.
What tool Linus will move to is still being determined
Subversion is pretty good.
Thank you Captain Obvious!
Yeah, but how reliable (read: it sucks) is it

there's no doubt that replication, triggers etc are all worth it
MySQL has had replication for a long time already.
You CAN'T take away the fluff of windows XP.
:)
Sure you can. Right click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced tab -> Performance settings -> Select adjust for best performance.
Then go into services and disables 'Themes'
Wow, look.. a much faster system. First thing I do anytime I have to work on windoze.
MySQL supports transactions http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/transactional-c
Does anyone archive IM?

AOL does, don't you read

You made a ton of Gentoo users out of us. Deal with it..
Who is accountable for the security of the Linux kernel?
Who is accountable for the security of the windoze kernel? Doesn't seem to be M$.
