Well IMHO linuxfromscratch.org is a bit more complicated than Gentoo as far as the install. It's all copy and paste, but you will learn a lot if you care to, as all the commands are explained in detail in the install manual.

Gentoo is an organized sort of linuxfromscratch, and I definatly like it better.

I thought the whole reason why you guys ran Debian is cause you like to run old software. And then here are some of you sporting new kernel from the 2.6 tree. Next thing you know you'll be using non-free stuff like pine. Heh..

The 2.6 kernel is quite a bit faster if stuff like performance matters to you. Think back to when you had a 2.2 kernel on there, why'd you upgrade to 2.4 again? :)

my favorite example is that you have to link the correct timezone files by hand, instead of choosing your timezone out of a list.
I'll bet you my next month's salary i can type

    ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/GMT /etc/localtime

on my Gentoo box before you can use whatever gui list tool you use with your mouse.

Besides that what do you think `ls /usr/share/zoneinfo/` gives you anyway? A fucking list to choose from, imagine that!

I can only guess that you either
    a) don't know your own timezone or
    b) think making a simple link is hard work.

Please, go back to Mandrake or whatever you use. Leave Gentoo to those of us who actually want to be more than an ordinary Linux user.

All you anti-Gentoo people really piss me off with all your whining. If you don't like Gentoo then don't use it..

Oh yeah and Gentoo is not a little distro at all, it has over 6500 packages available for emerge.

Most PHP coders are not even scriptkiddie level. Most of them barely even know HTML. Spend a day on the php-general list serve and you'll see.

I'd say there are thousands more Perl and C script kiddies out there than there are PHP ones.

Or maybe you're just jealous cause you're still hanging on to Perl like that old pair of shoes that still fits really good. Either way, PHP is here to stay, so deal with it.
