    Ravens are pretty amazing too, if you listen to a tree full on a quiet morning you'd swear that it's a language with words and sentences. I remember one big raven who taught himself how to play a game with some kids and a basketball, you could see him/her reasoning stuff out.

    In parts of eastern Europe at the turn of the 20th century it was common for >14 year old girls to be married off to any financially stable (read older) man. The rationale behind it was simple, women just didn't live very long and to keep families from dying out the female reproductive cycle had to start ASAP (as soon a biologically possible). Clearly sociological/cultural norms mean more than some Bible-toting tub-thumper's, TV evangelist pseudo-moralizing looking for some free press.

    My grandmother was married to my grandfather when she was fifteen (she died at twenty eight) and he was in his thirties, his second wife was seventeen at the time of his marriage to her (he died at seventy nine).

    If (for instance) only 10,000 such earthlike planets exist, what are the odds that anybody with a radio has been broadcasting during an appropriate time frame that we could hear them?

    The protocol at IBM used to be swiveling around when a user was entering their password(s), towards the end (of my career) I noticed that the young crowd no longer did this but seemed to watch intently everything you typed. I wrote up (disciplined) several trainee techs for this. While your tinfoil hat may or may not be necessary, those privacy screen gizmo's are a good idea and if anybody is standing where they can see your keyboard move to block their view when typing passwords, etc.

It might have been the single greatest loss of knowledge/history/culture in the entire existence of mankind. Just think of one of tens of thousands of losses, the complete works of Imnhotep, the man who invented modern architecture, medicine, mathematics and who knows what else, thousands of years before anybody else.

    If you have an encrypted HD with an MBR password you can still have secondary encryption to applications/data in virtual mountable encrypted volumes.

    Depending on the encryption method breaking both would be impossible by any current method.

    Not MSDOS 6.0 shell in graphical mode?

    The best thing about 16 bit Windows and/or DOS was the ability to reboot quickly. 32 bit Windows can require a cold reboot to clear.
