My first computer had Ami Pro (before it was bought by Lotus and becoming Lotus Word Pro) and it was brilliant! Even the Help was great - had an interactive tutorial which was useful for first timers.
I used to be all for physical keyboards... preferred to actually press on buttons and can cancel phone calls in my pocket without looking and no accidental swipes or such... however I did envy the touchscreen users for their much larger displays!
I had a BB 9105 Pearl and then got myself the Z10 as the Pearl was feeling it's age and I've not looked back since! The Z10 is really easy to use and quick. Typing with the Z10 is amazing - all my friends actually like how you can flick words up and string full sentences with real words rather than some alpha-numberic coded gibberish at great pace.
One of the reasons I went away from the physical button phone, apart from the larger display, is that I preferred the old-school candybar phone button layout - I can't handle those tiny but full keyboard button layouts! Friends who have them vouch for them but just not for me! Hope BB do well though cos I really think there new range is good.
(original poster, wasn't logged in unfortunately) erm... I beg to differ!
I know people that do a lot of data analysis on Excel and then just export the relevant bits into reports etc... there's a imperial crap-tonne of work people do that doesn't need collaboration!
ok, let me help you out a little... 1% of a billion users is still a significant amount of users. Or you can say the desktop Linux users aren't worth designing for as they are small percentage.
are you really telling me a games console isn't a pc in different packaging? Nowadays there's not much difference between the two anyway. Additionally several games are better played with keyboard/mouse combos too... kinda like they were designed for the pc platform...
99% of people who need to do graphics design and editing GIMP indeed serves as a fine replacement... 99% of what size of population of users? How many are that 1%? Also, I don't understand your point, you clearly point out that there are programs better supported in Windows but still say all of those are far superior to Windows in every way
Additionally, what's with the statement: unless you're one of the idiots who think computers are for playing games... please tell me what computer games are supposed to be played on...
little guys don't tend to go for the big corps unless they know they have a solid foundation... why on earth would you otherwise? I think this has been brought to life with the Apple/Samsung debacle.
I take your example as the basis for all students? How many students, as a percentage, do you think use non-MS Office? Doing presentations, creating reports with formulas and also spreadsheets... you might find better alternatives for each program (although can't think of any for Excel or anything as easy as Word), but not one suite that is good at it all.
I presumed the lack of volume is due to Win 8 phones coming out end of this year? The older win7 phones can't be upgraded to win8 due to hardware limitations... they'll only get up to win7.8 update and the apps for win8 may not work with the older version. So with this in mind, why would you buy a win7 phone right now?
Am I the only one that actually enjoys having things fly at me? I'm fed up of movies trying to give me depth... I'm pretty good at realising when one object moves in front of another in movies without the use of 3D tech... so please, I don't need depth... what I do enjoy is feeling as if I'm in the movie by objects moving past me.
I work at an engineering company with 3000+ engineers at this site alone.... most of us have transitioned to using laptops (lots still maintain their desktops - CAE etc) but pretty much everyone with a laptop docks into a station... and if they go to a meeting room, most people look for a cable rather than go on wireless because files are much quicker to access etc
you not using ethernet much is nowehere near a broad description of general use...
as opposed to eating dog food elsewhere?
why would you text whilst driving? That just seems stupid...
One box to rule them all...

do you still have to pay to receive texts in the USA?
I too would like to see this list... for investigative purposes of course!
ah... those are replies from the next universe along...
Can't you just pay by PayPal?

I guess you find students aren't normal people... and why would vendors sell pc's with Office pre-installed when it would increase the cost to buy?

why not build a rocket and aim for the sun?
This is a bad decision imo... and I shall miss it :(
How much of the computer user population do you think you represent?
now more people will realise my secret superpower.... high speed vision...and the others at the Academy mocked me!
We talking about the iPad or Surface?
ah... must be April's Fool day in the Mayan calendar... else some sneaky ninja has changed the dates on all my clocks/watches/phones at home again!
