    not sure if you have ever "gutted" a laptop, but it doesn't interpret VGA cables to display the image. you MAY be able to rig up a DVI input but then you would have to boot the machines with a working DVI port to make it active (atleast on Radeon).

    Also the Keyboard controllers are almost allways integrated to the mainboard of the machine being scavanged... damn near impossible to make work.

    The closest I could suggest (in all reality) is mounting a small keyboard to the front of a LCD panel, with some hinges or something. remove the mounting bracket if it's too big, then put the whole deal into a suitcase (those cool Jamesbond type metal ones).

    For power, plug it in or figure out the power board to get it to run off a battery (probably too difficult.)

    On a serious note (for the previous AC), maybee some of us would like the distraction? I'm poor, bad back, and can't help monitarily or physically. I don't need the guilt trip. heck I can't even give blood due to mono from younger years.

    I enjoy the distraction personally.

    Keep anything else to yourself. Starving really sucks. so does 512 meg of ram. I took care of my food issue, so now I'll work on my ram issue in a passive, non spam e-mailing method.

    It would be trivial to solder a tap to the data leads of the CMOS or across any data recording device/chip. I think a 1 farad filter should do nicely.

    a button from radio shack (or thinkgeek even) with the above capactior would prove quite fatal to the data.

    For an offline game, like single-player HL2, the CD Key will still work in 5 or 10 or 100 years.

    no actually it won't. in 10 years, we may all be saying "valve who?". not to mention the computer that the Cd key is authenticated against will be missing.

    to be honest I'd be suprised though if there isn't a "patch" *cough* 'crack' out before it's even officially released.

    wow, slashdot is getting really good with up-to-date info... I spent 2 nights ago wathcing the display cover the sky here in Idaho... last time I checked that too was in the Northern hemisphere.

    on a more technical note, austrailia isn't alone in all this crap. As far south as Idaho we can see aurora at the KP index of 9... as of this post, it's at 10.

    thank you, that makes alot more sense than my drivel :)

    atleast we now have a reason for it to be graphite and not diamond.

    now that I have the attention of somone who knows chemical and intermelecular bonds, with this new configuration (4 interconnects) does this create yet another material, due of it's own properties and description? also, what would the physical properties of this material be?

    just trying to clear my ignorance.

    Technically it's not a "compound" at all.

    and if this new... uh... material is just graphite, can you send me some graphite bundles from the jewlery shop? it has as much a right being called planiar diamond as graphite.

    but yes, the material was known before. the idea of fullerenes and this material must have been on somones wish list.
