There is no ambiguity here. There was no press release. I wrote an original summary of the LGP team and their accomplishments. I posted that summary as news to my site. Some time later, this other site copied my work word-for-word and represented it as their own.
The entire writeup at linuxlookup.com was lifted verbatim from my announcement at happypenguin.org. As far as I know, this team has not been announced *anywhere* yet besides happypenguin. Plagiarism sucks, guys.
Furthermore, posting it without noting the relationship is bad journalism. It's a conflict of interest.
I agree! It's a clear conflict of interest when the poster of a story has the same first name as the story's subject! What the hell was Slashdot thinking???
Conspiracy theory of the day: Lucasarts puts up a "fan community" site to garner lots of good karma in order to offset the hit it will take when it serves more legal papers to ScummVM (a Lucasarts adventure game interpreter), who just days ago produced another release...
Yeah, it's libc5. I got it going on my (non-RedHat) glibc2 system by:
1. allowing the install script to install the included Mesa binaries (beneath the game directory, so you won't overwrite your real Mesa libs) 2. setting BFRISDIR to/usr/local/games/bfrisdemo 3. cd/usr/local/games/bfrisdemo; chmod 755 bfris (apparently the install script forgets to do this for you) 4. starting the game like: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/i486-linux-libc5/lib./bfris
I ran the game as a regular user because I have the/dev/3dfx driver installed. Not sure what I think yet. Pretty graphics. It defnitely has to be played with a joystick. -- The Linux Game Tome
I play Quake2 online for an hour or more daily on my Linux system with a Voodoo2. You're doing something wrong if your system constantly locks up. Try reading the Linux Quake howto (http://linuxquake.com/howto) for a clue. -- The Linux Game Tome
Everyone's aware of FreeCiv, right?

Civ3 For Linux

Freeciv, as you might expect, is a GPL Civilization clone. It's quite good, in both multiplayer and single player modes. You really don't have an excuse for booting Windows to play Civ any more, unless you really like those annoying little songs that get played over and over... -- The Linux Game Tome
At http://www.rtimeinc.com/html/demoframe. html they've got a (Windows only) demo game called RTIME Rocks! available for download to show off their innovative new technology. Has anyone tried this yet? Alas, I won't have access to a Windows box until I get home from work.
My bullshit detector immediately glowed bright red as I read the first sentence on the demo page:
The first real-time, fast action game available over the Internet!

Nethack and Falcon's Eye are both currently competing for Best Free Role Playing Game and Best Free Linux Game in the Happypenguin Awards. Nethack was also nominated for Most Unique or Original Game, which seems a bit of a stretch to me. 10 or 15 years ago maybe it was original, but today?

There are glibc2.0 and 2.1 versions in the tar file, so everybody (except libc5 folks, I spose) ought to be happy.

It's still there...you've gotta go back a day or so, or try this link instead.

The second Linux game was BFRIS.

So roll up your sleeves and write a TNT driver for Mesa. That's how the 3Dfx support got there...

They say "gone gold" when they cut the master CD that gets shipped to the duplicators because the CD itself is gold-colored.
