I, on the other hand, bought a refurbished PowerBook 5 years ago and had zero problems with it. The only reason that I upgraded to a new MacBook Pro has been that I needed a larger disk and the 4GB of ram along with the ability to run Java 6. This was in January and I have had zero problems with it.
I understand that there are those that seem to just run into problems with their Apple products. There are always the occasional bad batches.
I like the Apple Macintosh systems, because I am a former NextStep developer. I have owned Apple computers since Mac OS X first came out. Before that, I have owned various PCs running Microsoft DOS and Windows. I have even tried Linux.
I am by no means a fanboi, but am sick of hearing people who bitch and moan about the price of a Mac or that Apple does not open up Mac OS X to run on a generic Intel system. One of the reasons that Apple's systems work so well is that they control the hardware as well as the software.
If you think that Apple's prices are too high, then don't buy one. Do you bitch and moan that a Mercedes is too expensive when you are buying a car? Or do you look at cars that are in your price range?
BTW: I got over 5 years use out of my PowerBook before I desired to upgrade to a MacBook Pro. I think that I definitely got my money's worth.
My response to the pressure to buy a service plan is to counter with "So what you are telling me is that the product is crap." The salesperson extols the benefits of the great product, but then tells me that I need the extended service plan. If the product needs an extended service plan, then I do not want it.
I have heard a rumor that Microsoft is going to replace Windows with a new operating system code named Chair. I have not heard much in the ways of details, except that the new os has legs.
I cannot believe that the US Army does not have stock publicity photos of their generals with the US flag in the background. One would hope that people would be smart enough to use one of them instead of doctoring a photo.
No. My friend was told that someone might have a religious objection to the icons. This application was only run in the US and only in company facilities.
I just love the hypersensitivity out there. I was on a project years ago where there were duplicate records on companies. One fellow that I worked with wrote a drag and drop application to eliminate duplicates. The user would drag the "good" record over an icon for the good company record and drag the "bad" record over the icon for the bad company record. The good company icon was a building in white with a halo over it and the bad company icon was a building in red with horns. I told him that someone with no sense of humor is going to tell him to change the icons. Sure enough, he was told to change the icons so as to not potentially offend someone's religious faith.
All exceptions should be handled, it is never acceptable to simply print the exception message and stack trace. Exceptions should be dealt and corrective or informative action taken to highlight the issue.
For debugging purposes the stack trace should be logged at the final destination of the exception or at whenever the exception is modified.
Logging
If a class has unconditional logging, then it should be updated to use log4j. A case of unconditional logging is where there are System.out.println() in the code with no conditions surrounding the call.
Logging should always be performed at method exit and entry as follows:
Assertions should be used in the code to verify that the expected results have occurred. Assertions should be used as liberally as possible.
Standard Assertions should be performed at method entry and exit; these methods should validate the pre and post-conditions for the method. All arguments should be checked for validity as should the return values. Similarly the state of the object and broader system should be checked as appropriate on both method entry and exit, for example if a file is open.
Note
Please note that this is in using log4j where the logging can be turned off an on at different levels of the code during runtime.

Do you mean you actually do not have a security policy for this? Do your employees know that? Check to see if your company has a security policy. The HR Director might not be aware of this. If your company does not have a security policy, then raise the issue with upper management. Cite examples of when private data has been compromised through weak security and what it cost those companies.
You can use what you find out here on Slashdot to come up with some recommendations, but it is upper management's responsibility to create policy. That is part of what they are paid for. Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley act requires that an enterprise have a security policy.
If your company does have a security policy, then you need to follow that policy. You are leaving yourself open to liability if you don't.
It might also be that the older we get the more we don't change brands. If a person drinks Coke then he/she will more than likely not drink Pepsi or another brand. This is more prevalent as we age. One would then start to skip ads for Coke, Pepsi and any other cola drink, because it is not going to change your mind.
Unfortunately the files exceeded the size of your available disk. That was one of those rare times that you experienced one of those system failures. Now you know why.

Slashdotter venom? *shudder* Thank you for putting such an image in my head. Now I have to go and get my mind rinsed out with beer.

Hey Ray,
You better be careful. You might be sued for Definition of Character.
The Consulate General of the United States in Hong Kong has a drop off at the entrance. You give your cell phone to them. It is placed in an individual bin and your are given a numbered card to retrieve the phone when you leave.
You need to turn your cell phone off as well.
I have not encountered any problems with this.

I am in Beijing and HBO and Cinemax channels at my hotel are not available today. CNN is available.
I have not found any websites blocked other than the usual ones.

Not to mention the "no human contact" deal as well.
