Actually, I wonder if any kids ever died while trying to leap out of trees using bedsheets as a shuba, like in the old game Below the Root. Now that would be ironic. One of the best non-violent video games of all time, getting blammed for causing kids to kill themselves.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, download the Vice C64 emulator right now and cruise on over to c64.com to download the game. Its worth a week of your time. I always wish someone would do a remake.

But now they are saying 1.6TB by 2010. Come on. Hard drives in 2010 will probably be 1.6TB or more.

This week I've had the suso.org server fail nearly every day right after the backups start running (read, heavy disk access). One of my customers is a electrical engineer and pointed me at the bad capacitor problem on Wednesday, then today its on Slashdot. Usually my servers are up for at least a year at a time.

I think I'll be replacing my motherboard ASAP.

The problem is, how do you know if a motherboard company has fixed the problem by moving to better capacitors. I hate to find out in another 4 months that the capacitors have gone bad. I can't exactly replace the capacitors on a server since the risk of screwing up the operation is high. Maybe I can convince Dosman and Zach to come over from the Packet Sniffers to help me out, since they live in Bloomington as well. ;-)

By my calculations, you'd need a 21-ton spacecraft to move an asteroid off course and save the earth from disaster. So they better start collecting enough metal to make one because 21-tons is a lot and will take quite a bit of power to put into orbit. ;-)

And yes, I RTFA'd and understand that everything has gravity and in space it has more effect, etc.

If a project is useful, and the people in control of the project won't help the project evolve in some direction or just sit on it and do nothing, you fork the code. In this case, you might not have access to the website source code, but I would think there would be an archive somewhere.

This is the reason why there should be at least two independent people in charge of open source projects.

The same reason for that is the same reason only 40-some percent of Americans use the Internet; they're elderly, or very young, but most of all, many of them are just too poor.

How can they expect to show any kind of useful information if they don't do a study like that every year or every other year. Its like saying that in 1905 only 7% of people used cars and now in 2005 99% of people use them, so cars play a big role in people's lives.

I thought our government was gathering more useful statistics, but I guess not.
