"suso.org has the right to refuse or terminate service to anyone for any reason."
Obviously, you've never started a business. You have to cover your ass from malicious people. This thread has become way off topic. If you want to talk with me more about it, email suso@suso.org.
Nope, we've been offering this service since 1997 and have never had a problem with it. Some of our customers are using over a gigabyte and even upwards of 20 gigs. As long as its used for email or website stuff, its ok. Disk space is cheap. Read our AUP.
Sure, Windows is easier to use than Linux. But eventually you just get so frustrated that you have to take an angle-grinder to your computer, and it really takes a long time to get all the little bits of metal out of the carpet.
Right, I was also having the same problem with nvidia drivers and GL in general. But I'm talking about kernel panics, from the console (not even running X).
I've been using Linux since 2.0.27. It has usually been generally quite stable for me. But recently, I've been encountering more and more kernel crashes. For trivial things to, like a kernel crash when I try to use ifconfig yesterday when setting up a machine. And random crashes on one of my servers that doesn't seem related to RAM. I know that some kernel versions have "problems", but it seems to be more than that. A recent trend of unstability. Can anyone else who has been using Linux for a significant amount of time attest to this?
how big the DVDs were physically. Its probably one of those new 5 foot in diameter discs that has a fork lift tray and disel powered motor. They didn't say anything about the laser. Sharks?
I'm guessing someone was trying to get the 13370000 or 13371337 comment id. I think slashdot should have an annual day of no comments. That would at least encourage people to read the stories.
Not a real operating system in my opinion. You're tempted to think otherwise, but I consider the main purpose of an operating system to abstract all the machine components from the software components. The C64 and Apple 2 didn't really do that.
Haven't you noticed? The computer industry likes to do this "reset" of software every 5-10 years. We get really far feature and stability wise with one platform and then BAM! Along comes a new environment and then we start the cycle of making new spreadsheets, word processors, etc.
The first reset that I know of would be the jump from OS-less computers (like C64 or Apple 2 or even DOS in a way) to OS based ones. Then another reset was when we jumped from CLI to GUI. Then another one was made when Windows 95 came out. And since about 2000 its been a reset to "web-ify" all types applications. After that, there will probably be a reset once we have head-mounted computers that read your thoughts and send information back to you directly. Because the environment for those types of computers would be different and have a different interface. What's after that? AI reseting us?
I'm not really against the "reset" that I'm talking about. I can understand why it needs to happen. I'm just pointing it out.
Call me a geek but one of the first things I thought of when I saw this was being able to roll a 20 sided wireless die w/ speaker and have it say 'HIT!'. It could be hooked up to my character sheet and the DM computer. Throw in that overhead LCD map projector and we're good to go.
The aerial photos for my area (Bloomington, Indiana) are MUCH older. My house wasn't even built yet(Dec 2002) on these photos. In fact, most of my neighborhood wasn't built, which make me think that the photos are from around 1999 or 1998.
It will probably even boost the number of firefox users long before it is even released. Just like the stockmarket, people will speculate and anticipate the need for something else.

This is snake oil.

Yes, that's why I subscribe to Slashdot(TM), so I can read things before you do.

Don't outsource to India, outsource to Indiana
Now, if only they'd make a program that let's me remotely break into people's mailboxes and steal their mail. Then I'd be all set.

Slashdot over IP doesn't seem to be working today though.
Its all fun and games until the bad guys start posing as the good guys posing as the bad guys.
or in jail.
"Jonathan Zdziarski has been fighting spam since before the first MIT spam conference in 2003,"
Awww, poor babies. That's a long time to fight spam.
Now there's one less reason for your friends to switch to Gentoo!
Indeed! A couple more features and I'll be ready to switch back to Fedora.

Keep your enemies closer?

Why does my mouse button need to make a click that can be heard 20 feet away?
So that co-workers can tell when you are playing solitaire.
If you work around computers a lot you are probably pretty tired of the noise they produce.
Are you kidding? That noise helps me go to sleep.

Is this kinda like how we still celebrate Shakespeare's birthday? Even though he is dead.
At least Rich Bowen is qualified to make these arguments.
One things I would have added to his list.
* Why can't we finish the perchild or metux MPMs sometime soon so that PHP can run as the damn user.
I got two emails today from customers who have trouble using PHP applications in safe mode. Fucking lame programmers.
