  4. My thoughts on The Future of Real-Time Graphics · · Score: 1

I thought this was a very fairly written article. He didn't tout one side or the other. He just simply wrapped up all the facts he'd collected and presented them in readable form. As technical as the discussion is, it didn't get bogged down in the blah blah and loose focus. Simple and consise. Kudos to you!

  5. Slashdotted on OpenSSL Security Update · · Score: 1

Don't you think it's unfair that slashdot doesn't make a local mirror, or at least a local copy of files like this one? For people that pay by the megabyte being slashdotted is not only annoying, but costs them money. On one hand it would be cool to get that much attention, but most of the articles are not posted by people related to a linked site. The poor admin that has to get up early in the morning to fight what looks like a DDOS, but is in fact the slashdot effect.

The problem I used to have is I'm not a morning person so being available as an admin before 7am is tough, but now I can admin my network while trapped in rush hour traffic. =] Reboot servers, telent into devices, stop/start services, add users, manage DNS... the list goes on and on.
Uptime can be maintained without even having to leave the comfort of your easy chair. If you're an admin you should check this product out.

Ya the ads are annoying, but jump throughs beat popups anyday! with these you can either wait for a breif pause or you can click a link to skip ahead to the article. Either way it's better than having to shuffle windows in order to close an ad that the page opens behind itself, like those X10 pop-ups. THOSE are annoying!

  11. The silent hand on Microsoft Appeals Anti-Trust to Supreme Court · · Score: 1

Two things could happen: 1. The supreme court won't hear the case based on the fact that it was a unnanimous decision. 2. The supreme court WILL hear the case and it will be quickly overturned. I think MS will do some bargining and appeal to the political powers that be with ideas that releasing XP will kick-start the staggering economy by encouraging people to upgrade their PCs for the new OS. As we've seen the requirements are very stiff.

  12. My experience on The Joys of HDTV · · Score: 2

I have an HDTV, but no High Res signal. I've tried Digital cable from Shaw (my local cale provider) and was appauled! The picture is not any cleaner and the "digital sound" only supports pro-logic (not that well may I add). Since I've replaced it with a DirecTV dish and dumped Shaw all together, I am MUCH happier. Picture is crisp and sound is thundering by comparison. Now I just have to get a new decoder box to support HDTV. If only we could get Tivo in canada without having to setup a US mailing address!

  13. It's coming on Global Warming: Do You Believe? · · Score: 1

Some of you may be familiar with Art Bell, he and Whitley Streiber wrote a book called "The Coming Global Superstorm." I just finished this book and was fascinated by it. They discuss hard evidence that shows that early human civilization could have been wiped out by climate change. Earth has a natural cycle to help it deal with global warming. There are currents in the ocean that exchange warm salt water with cold fresh water. This exchange is vital to the stability of the climate and when the ice caps melt the oceans are flooded with cold fresh water and the exchange comes to a grinding halt. It's predicted that when this happens the mother of all storms will develop and bring with it a new ice age in order to restore the polar caps. There is already evidence of this weather change. Most people have noticed the rapid increase in the instability of weather patterns in the world. Floods, heavy hurricanes and droughts. Global warming is not the part that we should really fear. It's Gia's revenge! Our CO2 based culture is accelerating the inevitable storm that has the capability of killing millions and displacing millions more.

  16. Apples misdricted business on Themes Removed At Apple's Behest · · Score: 1

I think apple should spend more time trying to fix their stock price by focusing on their business and not worry about the inevitable things that happen on the internet. They spend WAY to much time looking for people to sue. This action I think is more hurtful to apple anyway. The themes are made by people that support Mac. All they're doing by asking them to remove them is taking away visible support for their own platform. If the theme was MAC-sux, they might have a good reason to ask them to remove it, but any positive or neutral exposure is helpful and shouldn't be served a lawyer's letter! Call off the legal attack on your people Apple, it would save you money!

  21. Not open source... Yet? on Court to FBI - Full Public Review Of Carnivore · · Score: 1

Come on?! I think it's a good idea that this isn't open source. That's all we need is everyone using this software. It's bad enough that the FBI is running it! I don't trust the FBI as far as I could bowl them, but I certainley trust them more than some 14 year old scripty. I love the push for open source apps, but I beleive when it comes to security related programs there should be some resistance to giving it away freely to just anyone. Distrobution promotes lazy admins to buckle down or get bombed, but it also contributes to the number of people that are attempting hacks and monitoring data. Powerful software should not fall into the wrong hands. It's probably easier said than done, but let's not post carnivore so a bunch of kids or your boss! start reading everyone's mail!
