I know you're joking =) However, I haven't gotten ONE single Beagle, Netsky or MyDoom. And I do know lots of people.
Neither have our clients, though we do have thousands [virus] reported blocked on our e-mail server. I guess it just depends on how well you configure your mail server and antivirus.
On a side note, I also have several accounts on hotmail and yahoo, and I haven't gotten any on them either. OTOH, maybe all my complaining to my friends/family about stupid people opening attachments indiscriminately (sp?) and using outlook is finally working!
Over here in Mexico there's a tax on CD's that goes to Music distributors to compensate for CD piracy.
Music piracy still goes on, you can get any CD for 25 pesos (less than 0.25 USD), while us that still like to buy original CD's have to pay extra so people can get theirs in 0.25 USD.
They wanted to tax computing equipment for the same reason, but it hasn't, AFAIK, gone through legislation.
I agree with you in the added functionality of a packet filter.
One of the advantages I get out of mine was demonstrated with recent worms. I accept incoming tcp/80 connetions to a web server, and accept outgoing udp/53 connections from the same webserver (it needs to do DNS lookups once in a while), everything else is blocked (aside from some ICMP messages).
What happened when worms came trying to get into my client's webserver, yes it turnet out it was vulnerable, however, the TFTP connection needed to "download" the worm itself wasn't allowed, thus no harm was directly done and gave my client time to patch his windows box.
Though he usually complained that: "But I can't use MS Messenger on that server, the firewall won't let the packets out", my usual response is "You shouldn't be using MSN from there, that's why it won't let them out. I really really advice you to use your desktop for that".
Only need to allow outgoing connections when he's ready to do his [rare] Windows Update.
Hhmm... So far I've never been denied the sampling of a CD, most of the time they'll remove whatever protection it's got because that'd be the difference between selling it and not.
I guess they just push it back into the storage room and rewrap everything on it before poping it back on the shelves.
Well, what I do when going to buy a CD is ask en employee if I can listen to the CD, they'll put it in a CD player, give me some headphones, I listen to it, and make my decision.
I like it? I buy it. Once you think about it, it's not that hard. If they bug me that I'm taking too much time, I just tell them that if they want me to buy it, they should hang in there until I make my choice, if they don't accept, I just leave and spend my money somewhere else.
It's been a long time since I've bought a CD I don't like.
I wouldn't be able to sleep wondering what important files I forgot to tag as "never-expire", the pressure would be too much and I would end up tagging EVERYTHING to "never-expire", as well as cronning a job to tag everything to never-expire everyday just before midnight, just in case...
Oh, and I'd have that script send me a text message when it's done, just to keep me calm at night...
No seriously, you're talking about erasing stuff automatically, I, personally, wouldn't think that to be a good idea.
The Elegant Universe, by Brian Greene. Im acctually reading it right now, it has been a great book so far.
It starts with a very easy to read introduction to Relativity (special and general) and Quamtum Mechanics. Then it starts to twist your mind with all strings, oscillations, extra dimensions, etc. Very interesting stuff.
What I find amusing about it is when my non-geek friends ask me what I'm reading and I try to explain to them what it talks about... oh the look on their faces when we talk about the Uncertainty Principle and Schrodinger's Equation:) I mean, I'm not a physicist but I [try to] know the basics.
OK, I have a question, it is not illegal to send an ass-wiped (with all the organic implications that conveys) letter over to someone/some-company, is it?
That is, it is not considered to be some kind of biological attack/threat, or is it?
You can configure Snort to reset the connection to stop more traffic getting through ("Flexible Response")... though it's not quite recommended because of possible false-positives...
Yeah, that'd work though, if you had complete plasma screen walls on the iLoo and you got a 360 degree view of a beach or something... then you'd feel you were way out of the city, in a very nice beach, away from the traffic and stress, with the sound of the waves, birds, the wind, and observing the horizon while... well, while you take a shit...
Problem would be the smell thing... you'd need some heavy aromatizer (sp?) to give a beach impression...
I don't know if to mod you funny or interesting or insightful...
Of course not, I mean, not if you're Michael J. Gonzalez...

IANAP (physicist), but could that be the like the effect gravity has on time?
Is that a reference to Ender's Game?
You were moded as "Funny", I would've modded you as "Scary"... that is, if I had the points and there were a "Scary" mod.
You're right, my bad.

You, sir, would have my mod points if you weren't already at 5+ Funny.
Thank you for brightening my day.

Wouldn't work for me.

No, he does play dice, in different Universes the answer could be 45 or 41, maybe even 3,455,201... in ours is as simple as 42!
I don't think he was talking about Pixar...
You don't just need big computing power, you need design & drawing skills, besides lots of creativity and imagination.
I could have all the computing power and still not be able to do something worth watching.
OK, I have a question, it is not illegal to send an ass-wiped (with all the organic implications that conveys) letter over to someone/some-company, is it?

Well, I actually thought it was about some fight over the name Daubert being too similar to Dilbert.
Well, as long as PC retailers can add the software their customers ask for without barriers from Microsoft. Microsoft can keep it out of their OS.
Thing is, Microsoft should be forced not to put any barriers for Java to run properly in their OS.

Just read it here:
