    I think this is interesting for the sole fact that a whole lot of people who owe no direct kinship to each other elected to cooperate for a common cause.


    What a cool idea.

    What if we got a bunch of people on the common cause of processing SETI information?

    Or possibly processing information to cure cancer?

    Just imagine the possiblities?

    Nothing like pulling figures out of your ass huh?

    And look at your last statement. Makes sense that if a country has lots of guns then they report crimes less than other countries. Not.

    And actually I prefer not have someone decide whether I live or die by their decision. and before you come back with 'what about your doctor, other drivers, a pilot and such, read the 'their decision' part.

    Still chuckling about you making up figures then trying to base a logical argument. Too funny.

    when you need it, you need it NOW!

    I carry a concealed firearm.

    And yes, it is a pain in the ass. And yes, you always have to be aware that you are carrying a weapon. And yes, you just can't 'cut loose' and party and drink like every one in your group.

    But I firmly believe that at some point in my life, I WILL need this weapon.

    And I am willing to go through all the annoyance and responsiblity of carrying a weapon so I will have it at that time.

    and yes, I do hope that I never have to use it.

    Yes, seeing as some of the greatest movies of all time were written on a typewriter, I don't imagine word processing on a 286 would be so bad...

    You are missing the joke.

    At this time, the 286 is a piss-poor processor. And one of the great things about linux is that it can run under sub-par equipment.

    At this time, the story for Nemesis is a piss-poor story.

    So my joke was since they are using sub-par equipment they wrote a sub-par story.

    See the connection?

    Unless you think I was referring to ALL works done on a 286 or less are bad. And why in the world would you think that?

    Apple, and all large companies, NEED to defend thier trademarks religiously. And while some people may think they are out to crush the little guy the opposite is actually true.

    If a company doesn't defend it's trademark then it can lose it. If a large company ignores a competitor or possible competitor that coulds dilute it's trademark then they run the risk of losing the trademark to every other company that wants to use it.

    So while some people may see this as Apple being a bully, I view it the other way. If Apple doesn't vigorously defend even the smallest possible dilution then that could open up the door and some judge could rule against Apple later.

    KDE1 was better but uglier than Windows. KDE3 is better and prettier.

    A pig with stockings on is better looking than windows.

    And compared to windows 3.1 or earlier, you can even leave the stockings off.

    and I refuse to buy anything buy them now.

    What is weird is that I have had drive failures by Seagate and WD. the only brand that I have never had a problem with is Maxtor. So I only buy Maxtor.

    Of course after typing that, I fully expect my HD to fail before I click 'submit'.

    Yeah, because NO ONE has EVER made a lot of money hitching themselves to the Windows platform... (*cough*Quicken, Visio, Norton, McAfee, Innumerable Games, etc, etc, etc*cough)


    Look at your list.

    Quicken is the only company that has ever competed with MS and won.

    If you don't directly compete with ms then they will let you live.

    If not, you will die. Example: IBM (in software), Borland, Corel (compare success before and after they purchased WP), WP, Novell, Quarterdeck, Harvard Graphics, Lotus, and the rest.

    They invented their IP stack. no wait...

    They invented multi-media on the computer. no wait...

    They invented the internet browser. no wait...

    They invented new ways to extend monopolies and even when busted they never get punished. They only have to promise not to break the law in the same way in the future.

    YUP, that is what they invented.
