Older version CAN also read documents created in newer versions. You just have to select the older version from the "Save As..." menu.

Who's the "you" here? The reader doesn't have the new version. He can sometimes ask for the creator to do a "save as", which he may or may not do. But if he gives up and just buys Word++, MS wins in that they didn't have to make the document structure backwards compatible and the reader paid them more money.

umm.. dude. I said any version of a word doc can be opened by any NEWER version of word.

True, but you said that in rebuttal to a more general statement -- that is, that the various versions are incompatible. It would be nice if an older version of Word could read a file written by a newer version of Word, insofar as it doesn't depend on new functionality.

Microsoft doesn't need to make an effort to break compatibility. All it takes is a lack of effort to constrain the data structures so that it works that way.

Bad Comments are flamebait. Bad comments have nothing to do with the article they are attached to. They call someone names. They ridicule someone for having a different opinion without backing it up with anything more tangible than strong words. Bad comments are repeats of something said 15 times already making it quite apparent that the writer didn't read the previous comments. They use foul language. They are hard to read or just don't make any sense. They detract from the article they are attached to.

I did not like Sin City at all. The violence was just troubling. The film invited me to enjoy the heros torturing the villains. I didn't. More Jessica Alba would've been good.

Lexmark discounts certain cartridges with the understanding that the user will return the spent cartridges to Lexmark.

Maybe they should stop doing that.

Lexmark recycles the cartridges and sells them again. Lexmark got their panties in a bunch because another company was taking their prebated cartridges and recycling them, causing Lexmark to lose money.

If the business model isn't working, Lexmark doesn't necessarily have a legal recourse.
