My wife had seen "The Sound of Music", so afterwards she pointed out some additional parallels. The movie takes place in Austria where Julie Andrew's character is apparently running from the Nazis. She falls in love with a young man, and he goes away, but when he returns, he's had joined the Nazis.
Wow, it's strikingly similar if you get all of the facts of the movie wrong and focus on them being on a hill.
>6. All of the new consoles will have hard drives. Use them.
(in short - save points bad. quicksave good.)
this i disagree with. quicksave leads to people playing the game like this: take two steps forward, save, see enemy, restore, take one step forward, ambush enemy, take 2% damage in ensuing fight, restore, take five steps back and launch rockets at enemy's general position.
i watched a friend of mine play through half-life like this - he said it was boring, too tedious, and never challenging. gee, i wonder why.
I'll second that. I replayed doom I without allowing myself to save. It was a much more immersive experience. I was *afraid* of monsters instead of annoyed with the prospect of having to repeat a section.
Donkey Kong probably wouldn't be fun with only one life, but I think modern games can make the penalty for death be large and adjust the game difficulty appropriately. Furthermore, the problem with going back to repeat a section in a lot of games is that the section was boring.
In contrast, someone on Slashdot linked to another review of the movie by David Begor . ..
To those aware of the overarching plot of the saga, for instance, the clear reference to The Sound of Music in the pastoral romance between Anakin and Amidala hints at the encroachment of the Empire on their love, and foreshadows Amidala's flight from it with her children in Episode III.
That reference wasn't apparent to me. It's not like The Sound of Music is the only movie in which people go outside.
The empire learns. By eppisode 6 the empire is using security codes and shields. The rebels fully expect an old frighter code to still work becouse the Empire hasn't been very smart about security in the past. However instead of just blindly accepting the code the security officer calles the emperor.
If you're referring to the scene I'm thinking of, it's Vader who feels Luke's presence and questions the officer. The officer says (approximately) "It's an older code, but it checks out. I was about to clear them."
It's because the Star Wars universe consists of more than just the movies. After the original trilogy many novels have been written about what happens to the characters after "Return of the Jedi." All of the plotlines in these novels are approved by George Lucuas himself.
Between Star Wars and Empire, Alan Dean Foster's Splinter of the Mind's Eye appeared. It was sanctioned as well. It doesn't fit the continuity at all.
I don't think any of the books or comics would discourage Lucas from doing something different himself.
But it's illegal to sell alcohol to those who are under age. If it had been a responsible adult doing this, there would be no case, but it's a kid. Last I knew GTA was 18-rated. If some kid had drunk a bottle of his parents' whiskey and gone out and shot a cop, would you complain when the victim's lawyer blamed it on the drink?
Yes. I'd blame both the kid and his parents (for allowing him access to the alcohol). That would be appropriate for the GTA case, too, in my opinion.
I had the pleasure of visiting Mont Saint Michel in France. Most of the signs are written in French, English, and German. One of my friends speaks some German, and he didn't recognize the German translation for exit. He probably just didn't recognize a synonym, but we got a kick out of the idea that the French had labeled the fire exit "Explosives" or some such for the benefit of their German visitors.
So if your computer comes with a one button mouse, this is not a problem for you. Your grandmother however does not even understand the right mouse button is a button, so if her computer came with a three button mouse she does not have the option of going and getting a one button mouse.
I'm looking at my Logitech mouse, and it seems to me that this isn't Grandma's fault. The mouse buttons seem designed to look like one button. They're the same color. There's no outline to delineate where one starts and the other begins. They look like one damn button with a crack in it.
uh? What's wrong with the DVDs I have now? Will the picture be so sharp and crystal clear and picture-perfect that I simply must upgrade?
It's a pretty big jump from standard definition to high definition. It's something like going from black & white to color.
I'm pretty tight, so I don't own a HD television, and probably won't until they're much cheaper. But I do lust after better picture quality, and I suspect many other people who have watched some ATSC do also.
And when I do own such a set, I'll be eager to replace my favorite movies (unless Greedo shoots first).
I actually enjoy the whole bit of getting to the easter egg, it makes it that much more rewarding to watch it, without being hidden they're just more extra material on the disc. Its the same as easter eggs in software, part of the neatness of it is simply that its hidden there
That seems to be normal. Personally, Easter eggs piss me off. What's the difference between a well-hidden Easter egg and a really crappy UI? Just give me access to the content.
From my understanding, if everyone suddenly went veganm we'd all starve to death because a majority of the grain that is grown ad fed to livestock is of a variety not suited for human consumption.
You're mistaken. People can eat field corn (or any other grain fed to animals) just fine. If everyone went vegan, we would require less energy and land.
But raising cows does have benefits. Cows can eat grass. Meat and dairy products are easier to transport and store than their calorie equivalent in grain.
A) These camcorders use 4GB microdrives to shoot MPEG-2 video. The only reason they're doing this is for the size. MPEG-2 is inferior to DV for almost every scenario.
Yeah, DV is a much better compression technique, except when you're trying to make things smaller.
This is only true because Dollars vs Euros exchange rate is currently absurd. If you take into account cost of living, or if you make a comparison with constant dollars, 15 euros shoud be more or less 15 $. And American being more wealthy than french, paying 15 or even 20 $ per month for an american is cheaper than for a french to pay 15 euros.
I think it's absurd to use any conversion rate other than the what the the real market rate is.
But was there an advanced civilization on an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean that got its ass kicked by the Greeks sometime between 1200-10000 BC (Depending on if you take Plato's words of 10k years literarly or not)?
That 10^3 vs. 2^10 ambiguity has been a problem for a long time, apparently.
The only time I've heard "Einstein" as an insult it was meant sarcastically to imply the other person was stupid. YMMV.

It's a 45 rpm mp3. You're using 33 rpm.
They might be playing poker, which some people really do for a profit.
At what point does it stop being fun multiplying and dividing by time units?
How many Joules-per-fortnight-hours-years per square meter per day per month is that really?
Where are the ad words? I was expecting ads for centrifuges and uranium. Not even an ebay link.

I found this comment insightful, but lacking in detail. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Want to buy some water? It's genuine Indiana water from a well.

That's not really that far off from here. 15 Euro comes to $19.63.
SBC has a 1.5 Mbps service for $26.95.

Is an advantage of ActiveX or Java solutions no dependence on XUL? What's the difference?
