Yes, a scientific mind assumes there is no such thing as magic because nobody anywhere on the face of the earth can observe, model, or predict any type of magic. A silly person assumes there is magic involved despite the fact that this magic has never been scientifically observed.

What you are talking about is the "God of the Gaps" phenomenon, which states that the idea of "god" is used to fill in the gaps in science. And as science grows, "god" shrinks.
That isn't really bad advice. FIRST you should write all your code in comments, then you should go through and fill in the code under the comments. Anything else and you aren't properly engineering your code.
If I were your boss, I would hire an intern and have him rewrite your apps from scratch with a single, maintainable language. Once he is done, I would hire him for half of what I pay you, then give you the boot. Job security through incompetence?

Humans want answers to some of the big questions so badly they don't care what the real truth is. That is where religion and other superstition "work" where science does not. I think "science can't tell yet" is a better answer than some bogus fairy tale.

i guess my point is that people should be taught to apply science to everything. that's the only true way to discern reality from fantasy. read "a demon haunted world" by carl sagan or "why people believe wierd things" if you want a better explanation of why science should not be abandoned outside of the lab in favor of fantastic tales about invisible intelligences.

In my experiences, the best high school science teachers still only teach a subset of the scientific method as it applies to their discipline. A real science teacher should teach the real scientific method AND teach her students to think skeptically AND impart the importance of the fact that the scientific method is the best way humans have to understand the universe. You will NEVER get that from a religious teacher.
