I'm sorry, I thought it was funny when they beat the cheap fingerprint biometric. Yes they started small. But I'd like to see them get into some more hacking. Oh it was complete sarcasm on the United part. I was in government for 21 years + (still have to work with them on occasion) Even they will tell you how messed up it is. From the government view, corporate has more power than government in many aspects!!

Look at the good side, if they are successful others might follow suite. Our business is getting hammered by Sprint/Nextel I spend most of my time on the phone correcting their mistakes. If it works in range of the business we're in, it would still be great. There is a lot I could do with an open network.

Making the government think they are going to crash it into some famous location. They still manage to crash and get just cuts and scratches and only a few dead.

Looking at it from several perspectives. Yes they look guilty. But as stated above. The punishment should fit the crime. Be it this was a civil case not criminal. The same stands. The Jury was obviously pissed off by the defendant and nailed that person on not just fact, but emotion. Just look at the jurors statement! Its pretty obvious. The amount IS ludicrous. At worst the Jury should have only doubled the original settlement. I guess you could say don't piss off the jury, but thats obvious. But in this case, the jury did cross the line. Again, see juror's statement. I've spent a lot of time in the courtroom (not as a defendant). Jury's can unfortunately get to emotional and prejudicial.
No everyone doesn't know about gimp. Yes there is a free online book, but what can this book hurt? NOTHING !! if anything it will help promote gimp even more. Some people want to sit down with a book instead of a lit screen. Nothing wrong with that. I used the online book and it was great. But personally I love the fact I can give the book to my boss and pay less! Photo shop is probably only used to a fraction of its ability (same with gimp) by most users. Gimp is capable of some high end editing. Thats enough for me..

Hell, I'm still shocked it hasn't become more main stream. We implemented it in our 911 dispatch years ago (way old slashdot article of Linux 911 http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=99/08/27/1641223&mode=thread&threshold=3 from back in 1999). It saved us money and lives. Its still running great!!
