It just doesn't make sense to be stubborn in front of a cop. If you have nothing to hide, show your damn license. The cop's gonna run a check, find nothing wrong and either leave you alone or ask you to leave. Why be a dumbass for NO GOOD REASON. Now if the person was staging a rally, or trying to protest something, yes I can understand. Ahhh well
You can't just "recompile" Java. There are lots of architecture specific code in there that requires ALOT of work to port. Go download the SCSL code from Sun, and then tell me how easy it was to port to HPUX.
Lets say the US has a fully automated robotic army. Ignorning the whole "SkyNet" issue, does this mean making war is now a no brainer? Because if American's don't have to die, do we just beat up whoever we want whenever we want? I for one think that this will change the world more than the Atom bomb did.
Seriously the best keyboards are the new Sun Type6 USB keyboards. They are sturdy, have the right "click" and since they are USB work with everything. Plus the control and capslock are in the proper position.
Why are people always talking about removing Clippy? I never install him in the first place! There is an option called "Office Asstaint" (or something to that affect). Just uncheck that when installing and Clippy never existed!
That doesn't even make sense! Java is a language, not an OS! Yes these systems will have Java installed on them, but so will StarOffice, GNOME and other pieces of software. The reason why Sun went with the Opteron is simple, they can present a unified software solution to the customer. Run Linux or Solaris in 64bit mode no matter how large the machine is. Whether its single cpu Opteron, or 64way SPARC box. Makes alot of sense...
Uhhh, won't MS have to rewrite the whole OS, directX, etc for the XBox2? It seems that porting Windows to PowerPC may be harder than just getting a new Intel processor in there. Of course if MS does port XP to the G5, maybe the Apple guys can install something besides a real OS:)
MS really should follow Apple's model of releasing an OS update every year or so. 2006 is 5 years *AFTER* XP, with no real inovation till 2006, will people even care by then?
You'd think that it would be easy to fix this at the language level. It can't be that hard to create a string library that automatically ignores everything past the end of the string.
They won't kill OpenOffice, people who want to use OpenOffice are free to use it. But this all in one plan IS much cheaper than what MS charges for the OS alone!
Imagine if someone *really* wanted to cause problems. They could attack a number of our power generators (say 10-15), cause them to go down. Now you have this nice cascading effect where all of the power plants in the US go down. We're left in the dark. *SHUDDERS*
I knew Japanese Anime are more of a documentary then entertainment! I can't wait to see huge robots fighting each other, being able to transform into jets and guardian modes! Plus with all the destruction that the robots will make, the Japanese construction companies will be busy for quite some time!
How is this any different from a standard 35mm disposable camera? I can get one of those, and get the same features but for half the price. Its not "Digital", but I can get a PhotoCD, index prints, etc for about $7.
You absoloutely have to come to the Bay Area, this is a technology haven, AND its a beautiful place in its own right. One of my most favorite places is the Golden Gate Bridge. Cross the bridge and head to the Sausilto side, then take a uturn right away, and you'll be heading back towards the bridge, but take the first right turn that goes up. And just keep going up, and up, and up and the top has one of the most spectacular views I've seen! Definitly don't miss it...
Persoanlly I think anti-virus software should run at the router of your ISP. That way PC's are never affected (or rarely).

I hope the EU also forces Apple to bundle Real with MacOSX as well...

Considering my Monitor (24") is bigger than my TV (21"), I think I value computing more than "entertainment" :)

I don't see anything about how long it took them! I do know that RSA-155 took 7 months of computation to break...
Considering you can get a much better machine for much cheaper. Check out:

You'll find BETTER Dell machines for ~$400 with 6 months of AOL included!
I think PvP says it best:

If they both used the J2EE Reference Implementation wouldn't the code be similar? I fail to see how this is an issue.

Wait, if I know that -- fixes Windows, does that mean I'm going to be sued by MS?
A better comparision would have been against Solaris x86. Solaris scales very linearly with every added processor.

I hope they fired the guy that wrote the firmware for the routers... And I hope netgear reimbursed the university for its time and network usage.

That's just great, now we can destroy our world *another* 1,000,000 times over!
