  1. Let's hope it ends before one of my computers breaks down so I don't have to choose between crappy overpriced secondhand or crappy overpriced new Apple stuff. Apple managed to lose a lot of their appeal very fast.

This just means that I go completely to Linux for development. Chrome and ChromeOS for storage, email, presentation and business apps. Maybe Mac because I love OSX on a laptop - I'm dropping Office on my Mac because Microsoft wants $250 CDN to upgrade to the latest version and won't continue with updates.

And, after doing all this, I don't feel deprived one bit.

So, why would I pay Microsoft a lot more for the same capabilities?

Somebody, down the road, at Microsoft is going to be crucified in front of the shareholders for pushing us away from Windows and Office.

I've been hearing this for over 20 years now and I guess I will be hearing that song for the 20 years too.

If you were right GMOs would not be sold here, but as far as I know they are. We also have much stricter legislation for food and medication. And GMOs have been in use for over twenty years now and we still don't see many, if any, negative effects yet.

I think gene modification is a great technology that should be exploited, but there should be strict rules on how to handle it. Just outright forbidding it, like the EU has done now again is putting your head in the sand.

  5. Idiots on European Court Ruling Raises Hurdles For CRISPR Crops (sciencemag.org) · · Score: 4, Insightful

I think this decision is simply idiotic. Gene editing will happen anyway anywhere on the planet and people will get rich from it. If I were the EU I'd make sure this happened within my places of jurisdiction so we benefit from it. We missed the gene editing boat in the 1990s due to a similar decision, and now we do it again. Unbelievable. This decision is clearly made to please the public who have no idea what genetic modification means, other than that it's 'scary' and 'unnatural.' This is not the way to do politics. Often what people want is not what is good for the people.

Nissan's Leaf is often seen here in Europe, as is the Renault Zoe. The Jaguar iPace is a much better car than anything Tesla has on offer. Then we have the (outdated I agree) BMW i3, the e-Golf, and Volkswagen will release a whole range of quite exciting electric vehicles next year. Dieselgate has had a positive effect on them.
And of course taste in cars also plays a role here.

  7. That is utter bullshit. 99% of those 'sheep' as you call them have better things to do than scrutinizing firmware. They need a device that does what they need it to do so they take what is available.

Then we totally disagree. Americans just can't build cars, and Tesla is yet another example of that. The doors are flimsy, the dasboard is just not op to scratch for such expensive cars, you can't sit in the back because you can't get your feet under the chair in front of you and there's not enough headroom... Oh wow, 0-100 km/h in 3 seconds! Yeah that is important in daily driving.

No way. Tesla is already overtaken left and right by the established auto makers who have much better cars that they can actually deliver for a lower price. Tesla's days are numbered if they don't get their shit in order fast.
