I've used Thunderbird for years before I found out that if you delete a message, it doesn't get deleted at all, but is just made invisible. It doesn't delete it until you 'compact your folders'. There's an option in the settings to have it do that automatically. I find this behaviour annoying, because if you don't know that you have to compact your folders (and which non-computer-savvy user does know that?) you will be left with an ever-growing, huge mail folder. I didn't discover this until my backup script started to take a long time copying my mail folders. I haven't seen this 'feature' in any other email client I've used. I hope the Mozilla team will correct this in the future.
When I was a student we called that biochemistry, or biotechnology. Even in 1989 we already worked on the nano scale. We just didn't mention it because it was so obvious. Then the suits started throwing money at everything that was called 'nano', so now everybody who wants money for research calls whatever (s)he is doing nano.
A friend of mine who has a one year old kid once said to me: "he [the kid] hasn't lived when he doesn't have any scars when he reaches puberty." My friend is right of course. There are toys in that list that I would gladly give my kids, if I had any. The Sky Dancers, the cannon and the Creepy Crawlers I think are particularly cool and not too dangerous.
What you don't seem to understand is that you've insulted just about every Apple user out there that says they believe MacOS is the best. When someone says this:
"Come on, despite what all the Apple fanboys say it's just an OS. If you don't like it, go elsewhere and don't waste your time getting frustrated. There are better things to do in life!"
with s/Apple/Linux/g you'll be flamed and called a whiney Windows/Mac fanboy. I just don't understand the mentality that it's ok for linux to be complex and irritating and if you leave, you're a loser...but don't waste your time when it comes to MacOS or Windows...
People may say that they believe Mac OSX or whatever OS is 'the best', but still it's only an OS. Nothing to waste your time on if you don't like it. And I didn't say anything about Linux or Windows, so don't put words in my mouth please. I just said that I think it's a waste of time trying to like an OS that apparently does not suit your taste.
But why should you waste your time on a system you don't like? Come on, despite what all the Apple fanboys say it's just an OS. If you don't like it, go elsewhere and don't waste your time getting frustrated. There are better things to do in life!
You can of course also buy an old Commodore 64. And if you want something new, you can also buy a joystick that looks like Spongebob, which has a C64 plus a lot of games built in. I'm thinking about picking up one of these. They're only around 20 euros or so.
We all know M$ software sucks. So let me tell you about my MacBook Pro, the one God Steve made. If more than one person have (been) logged on, I can never get it to sleep by just closing the lid. It either doesn't go to sleep, or it wakes up after a few minutes. That's really bad, because then it gets hot and when you want to use it again, the battery is dead. I also have XP on that machine, and I have the impression that sleep mode in Windows works even better than in OSX.
If you hadn't already I would have replied exactly the same thing. We have the ISS for crying out loud; how hard can it be to make a sort of bus that is launched from the ISS, stays in orbit around the moon, and from where you send a small vehicle to the moon's surface and back? We could do a similar but more complicated thing in the 1960's with a development time of 8 years or so. Now it should take at most two years to make something like that. We don't even have to take the astronauts all the way back to earth in their bus: it can go back to the ISS and the astronauts can take the 11:30 Space Shuttle from there.
Whatever happened to "before this decade is out"? Why the hell could we go to the moon almost from scratch in the 1960's and do we need almost 20 years now?
Fake your Space says (and I quote): "We understand that you want your friends to look as normal as possible and as far from fake as possible. I looked around in the Women and Men section, and I didn't see one normal looking person. Check out Molly for instance.
Usually people throw out their toasters after twenty years or so, instead of three years. Besides, a toaster takes much less energy to make and operate than a laptop does. So toasters are more environmentally 'friendly' than laptops.
Most people don't have a spare wall to use as a TV screen. Besides, many people don't have the space for a projector. You need to have nothing between the projector and the wall, which is difficult to realize in a small room.
Instead of working out, which gets you tired, you can also play adventure games. They don't usually require much in the form of interaction with the computer. To get you started, you can try the Carol Reed mysteries, or Syberia. Look at Adventure Gamers or Just Adventure for more information.
Apart from the fact that I can decide what to wear and what to eat today myself, thank you, there is a thing about this house that really worries me. Computers are power hogs. I read somewhere that all the efforts Great Britain has done to reduce its CO2 output in recent years will be nullified when digital TV is in every home in Great Britain. Imagine how many extra power plants must be built in South Korea to keep these houses powered. Not good for the global environment.

Spotlight doesn't locate sytem files like /etc/passwd and is therefore useless for a Unix fan. Or is there some configuration thing I don't know about?

Not my father. The poor man tried so hard, but he just can't get his head around adventure games. He has more fun playing card games on his PC.

Wow, that's very cool. But what about this giant one-celled organism they talk about in the article. Does anyone know more about that?

My point is: nothing is perfect. Get over it.
I wanted to post an intelligent phrase here but all I can come up with is de doo doo doo, de da da da...

Thanks, I'll try it out!
I still would like to know if I can use odf in Word. Is there a plug-in for it?

This website is a nice prank.
You're a food snob. But you're right. :-)
Good point, but keep in mind that your old 80's TV may use more energy in the rest of its lifetime than it takes to produce and run a new LCD TV.
Medion, the computers you buy at the Aldi stores. They come preinstalled with pretty much everything you need, but no trial versions. Great stuff.

Can you point me to a website to back your claim? I've never heard of LCD's burning in.

Are your monthly expenses so big that you can't pay them for 24 months with zero income? Sell things and learn to cut expenses.
You either earn a LOT of money or you live very cheap. I don't know anyone who can afford to live for two years without an income.
