I also have this problem, and many times the red seems like it is higher than the blue, as if it's a 3D picture. Does anyone have that experience? I think it's in the glasses I use because before I had them I didn't have that problem.
The problem is that with a game the chance of a disappointment is about the same as with a movie, so I want to be REALLY sure I like the game to pay E50,- for it (I live in Europe:-)). But you're right; if you do the math a good game is cheaper than watching a good movie in the theater.
I usually find new games way too expensive so I patiently wait until they get cheaper. That means the games I'm looking out for are games that were new last year or even longer ago, like Uru, Post Mortem, The Sims... Yes I'm an adventure player. I'm very curious about Syberia II but I gues I'll have to wait until 2005 before I buy that game.
Here in Holland the police was able to find a woman who was kidnapped because of triangulation. Her phone company could give them the whole route the kidnapper took her to her hiding place. IAANAMCS (also not a mobile comms specialist) but IIRC a GSM phone chooses the strongest station from three stations that are close by, so the position of the phone can in principle be determined fairly accurately.
A few years ago adventure games were in this same 'state'. All you fans out there: be patient. In a few years time the genre will slowly awake from it beauty sleep, just like adventure games are doing at the moment.
If this is true these guys can make insane amounts of money. They patented their technique in 1996 in the UK and in 2000 in the US so we are left with a monopoly. Hopefully they won't exploit it too much.
I hope you're right (it sounds reasonable:-) ). It's a pity that companies don't release non-profitable games every now and again just to please the people you describe. In this way they keep themselves in the picture by these people.
I'm wondering. There must be a reason the industry does this. If you want to make a lot of money you have to appeal to the large majority. So apparently the large majority likes the games that we, as/.-ers think are way too 'overproduced'. This proves that we are but a small, insignificant community. Sad but true.
I've read the review but I'm wondering. Sometimes I watch a movie together with friends. They are usually spread around the room hanging on different chairs and the couch. Will the surround sound experience be equally good for all of them, or is the person sitting directly in front of the set (far) better off than the rest?
It seems like MS is taking other people's security problems more serious than their own. Let's thank them for bringing our little security problems under our attention so we can fix them quickly like we always do.
You can compress an iso can't you? It's not data reduction like mp3 but it's better than nothing. Then again, I don't think music files can be compressed easily.
That's a nice idea. One day after the takeover of Google, all the engineers and other people responsible for the search engine quit their jobs and start a new company named Gooble or something.
Although the great internet boom of the late 90's is over, many newbies enter the Internet every day. These people have never used e-mail or browsers before and have no idea about what (not) to do on the 'net. I think these are the people that reply to spam, leave their names, adresses, crdit card numbers and what not everywhere and are in general the most vulnerable group on the 'net. Educating these people will not always work (as in real life), so there will always be people that reply to spam etc., and therefore sending spam will continue to be profitable.
Why not build a Faraday cage around the whole house? If only for the coolness factor... As an additional bonus your mobile phone doesn't work in your home so your boss can't find you there!
That may be true but I wonder what the price difference is if they make the lactic acid directly from oil (like the plastic normal CD's are made of). That may be a bit less environmentally friendly but still better than non-degradable plastic.
Maybe it's good to check the links first before putting a story on/.. I could not find anything about the EC dumping this when I followed the link. I would expect it to be on the MERIT website! Therefore as far as I'm concerned this is an unconfirmed rumour and thus no news.

That was a great game. I never finished it because I always died prematurely unfortunately.
Come on, MS reads /. too. If they don't know why we don't like them by now they will never get better.

Mod this waaaaayyy up please! Asking this Ask /. question is a sure sign of terminal geek-ness. I would be very worried if I was your wife.

Wow your nails are expensive! Do you always use silver-plated nails?

What the **** has global warming to do with a windows emulator?

Did you even read my comment before replying? Data compressing is not the same as data reduction.

You're so right. I can't wait until 2.6.13 is out :-)

How does it work? And why do we want this? It's not exactly energy efficient or simple, is it?
I learned a lot about voodoo from Gabriel Knight I, and a lot about the Knights Templar from GK III. The games themselves were also very enjoyable.
