There's a small SF Bay Area startup that makes specialized wireless access points. You setup a network of the access points. The access points know about all other access points that *should* be there. When it detects another access point that is acting like an "evil twin," the network of access points can not only locate the evil AP to within few meters, but also DOS it with bunch of bad packets to knock it off the network. The CS department in Berkeley uses it. It can also be configured to knock out any non-evil AP if you want to restrict wireless APs in your organization. I don't know the name of the startup as the presentation by CS IT department chose not to disclose the company.
Since the article is asking about generic storage/backup solution, 3ware may suffice. But you'll never see me buying another 3ware setup again. Don't know about Windows, but write performance on 3ware RAID-5 setup is horrible in linux. Even with the new 9xxx series, we're getting about 35MB/s, opposed to 100-150MB/s you get on the other solutions like RAIDServe will deliver.

Some suggested adding debian apt sources, but the package dependencies don't mix well, and soon, you'll either end up with a broken system or a hybrid that has none of the goods of Xandros.
Check out Fujitsu P2xxx series. It's slightly bigger than the picture book and doesn't have a built-in camera, but it does have DVD/CD-RW and Wireless NIC *built in*
The site's down at the moment, and slashdotting wouldn't help either. But if you want a small laptop without all the external bundles, check it out.

What Free Cable?

I remember reading somewhere long while back that the reason many communities can get free cable when subscribing to cable modem service is that the cable companies can't afford to upgrade their infrastructure to block out cable tv when you subscribe to just cable modem. It requires a major upgrade to their service centers in order to block out the cable tv. So maybe AT&T may start requiring people to sign up for cable TV as well when signing up for net access like people have already mentioned, but I don't think those that already have service will wake up one morning to find that their cable tv has been cut off.
Holy crap! on my Celeron systems, it's take days to compile it. But then again, I always felt KDE and Gnome were too slow, and have been sticking by WindowMaker.
If you have the season 1 dvd, you can pause it and go frame by frame. And I think the guy that mentioned 800+ dollars is correct. Some random price. Or perhaps that's how much babies go for in underground market?
Magnetic fields, like electric fields, are the modern equivalent of leprechauns, fairies, and demons. For the typical layperson, they are invisible, subtle, and inexplicable.
I took a physics course at a JC when I was in high school. The professor was talking about how "theories" can be made up on the spot. As an example, he talked about friction as tiny little living beings living in every things. We'll call it "F" now, because I don't remember what he called them.
Fs lives in the tiny holes of everything. They don't like being moved. So when you try to move an object, all the Fs come out to push back on the object. Objects with rougher surfaces mean more Fs can live in the object, so more are available to push back.
So how come once it starts moving, it's easier to push?
That's because eventually, you'll crush the tiny Fs, and their blood and guts act as lubricants. Also, because of that, there's less of them to push back.
But if you stop the object and push again, it'll have the same amount of resistance as the first time. Why?
Well, soon as you stop, Fs go back to their tiny little holes. And they multiply really fast!
It may have some similar points, but one big difference is that the contractors consider the temp workers powerless. They do what they do(letting them go with no valid reason, trying to split them up) to break their spirits, and they also know that most of these workers won't or can't afford to file a lawsuit against them. The author of the article was given absolutely no options to find out why she was terminated. In fact, it sounds to me like they actively put up walls to prevent them from coming back to find out why they were fired.
Most of these workers are either not educated enough, don't have the money, or don't have the time to explore the option of retaliation by lawsuits. They are too busy looking for their next job so they can pay the rent. And the bastard managements of these contractors know that!
I thought Shrek was pretty clever. But I didn't think Monsters Inc had good plots at all. I just liked it because Boo was just so darn cute. Another good film that no one's mentioned yet(probably because it claymation and not cgi) is Chicken Run. I thought the dialogs were far more original than Toy Story 2 or even Shrek.

I mentioned the rat particles, because my mom used to work at Del Monte during tomato seasons. Probably, (at least where she worked at) most of the hired-hands are immigrant older women with little English skills. And when she worked in the line to sort out bad tomatoes, she said that they'd often see dead rats in the batch. And none of the women would dare pick those up, so they get by, right into the grinders!
I've been told by other friends that most of these companies are allowed to have up to certain percentage of "extra parts." So hot dogs aren't the only things with stuff you wouldn't believe. Of course, it hasn't turned me away from hot dogs or ketchup...
I saw some guy putting a bright green stuff on his hot dogs one day, and I was curious about what it was. I thought it was just some special stuff for hot dogs that I just didn't know about. Well, the next day, I'm grocery shopping, and I found the bottle! Heins Shrek Green "ketchup-flavored" sauce! It actually does say "ketchup-flavored" on the bottle and doesn't claim to be ketchup. I like green, Shrek, and I was buying hot dogs, so I said what the heck!
It definitely is "ketchup-flavored." It has a weird taste to it.

More than likely, it's a Ultra160 SCSI. There are two channels on this motherboard. Don't remember whether it uses Symbios or Adaptec, though.
