what if they collected the fresh water vapour that is evaporating off the salt water as well?

Or better yet, collect the billions of gallons of condensate that falls out of the sky every day. Then you don't have to worry about all those silly ions, electrons and membranes.

  2. Re:Oh no! on New Threats Against Pirate Bay Owners · · Score: 1

They'd just pick up indie CDs and republish them as if they were their own.

But the detail you leave out is that there would be no law to protect their exclusivity or claim of ownership. Nobody's going to buy from them if somebody else (the band?) is giving the recordings away for free.

However, if people have evidence that the little weird quirky pages are actually disappearing, rather than just getting swamped, I'd love to hear about it.

I just discovered that all the comments are missing from all the articles posted here before 1999... definite bummer

Why bother, when you can just download it again if you want it?

Don't count on it. Shit gets lost all the time. Like just now I discovered that Slashdot deleted all the comments from articles posted before 1999. There went a bit of history up in smoke.

Yes, they do, on a mass scale. When applied "properly" to things like smut, terrorism, gay marriage, etc, the "Reefer Madness" tactic works very well. In fact it's still working on the drug situation also. Otherwise prohibition would have been abolished a long time ago. Do not underestimate the power of "madness".

That would be confusing as hell for a chopper pilot. I expect the machine to move in the direction I push the stick. However, since the floor shifter in a car works in the direction you describe, for everybody else, it would probably work okay. Maybe a motorcycle twist grip would be best.
