    Actually, I remember in one of the joke sections in Readers Digest, a deaf person couldn't get through to the relay service to call to place an order for a pizza, so he called his parents on their tty, and had them call long distance and order the pizza instead.

    About a half an hour later, the pizza was there and ready.

    In Rochester, especially around RIT/NTID, pizza places and the like have installed TTY's and trained their staff how to use them.

    I understand why the GPL needs to be used now, so Microsoft can't just take all our innovation, repackage it and sell it with advertising.

    Sure, why not? They'd just have to distribute the source code as well.

    Having worked at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, I can tell you that IP Relay is the hottest thing there. Computer kiosks that were set up in the building used to be pointing to web pages within the school. When I left in 2002, most every time I walked past them, the browsers were opened to the Sprint IP-Relay center.

    I wonder. If people shit on the commons, can we go back and chase them off with a gun?

"If I owned the most successful daily newspaper in Buffalo, I wouldn't want to leave it to my competitor to own the Sunday edition."


    Ironic, because Buffalo has had only one newspaper since the Buffalo Courier-Express folded in 1982. The only one that is left is the Buffalo News.

    There is no competitor to leave the sunday edition to.

    Correct. Many Hondas sold in the US are made in the US. If you want to check, look at the first character of the vehicle VIN. If it is 1 or 4, then it was made in the US. My Honda Civic Hybrid's first character is "J", indicating it was made in Japan. Here is a partial decoder.

    Sure, and every computer system works magically out of the box? What if that "enroll in a health care plan here" site doesn't work correctly? What if I need tech support to come down and install a local administrator account on my machine? My staff assisstant isn't nessecairly the person that I would want to have to talk directly to our help desk on my behalf.

    Rail transit is so feeble because it's been undercut by huge government spending on roads. Public transit systems were deliberately hobbled because they posed an obstable for the then-growing US automotive industry.

    Wrong. Rail transit (especially intra-city rail transit) is so feeble because automakers (especially GM) conspired to make it so.

    Yes, the author is allowed to put their works away in a vault with a bomb on a timer that will go off at some point in the future.

    While there are criminal and civil statutes surrounding copyright now, copyright has been more of a social contract than anything else. This social contract says basically "Sure, you can control the creative expression of the idea for a limited time, but after the limited time, all of society may benefit from your idea".

    That's exactly what I meant. Did it mean the stock resumed trading because its value went up 10%, or did the value go up 10% because the stock resumed trading? The "announce"ment doesn't say anything about the price of the stock.

    All it says is that they're paying off soem debt, and are issuing more shares of stock.

    Also, the "nice increase of +10.00% in three days" sentence fragment is confusing. A "." in european terms is similar in meaning to a comma in western terms. Is this just 10%, or is it 1000% with a misplaced format separator?

    Why do geeks, who can look up anything on Google, have no idea what Asperger's Syndrome is?

    For some of us, it's that we've never heard of it before. Honestly, I didn't know what it was until a music friend of mine told me that she had it.

    I wouldn't have noticed it either, except for her occasional inability to "get a joke" or "get a clue" while chatting.

    That's why we wise up and join groups like Scouting For All.

    Go figure, it's the organization that taught me to understand and respect those with ideals different than my own that is on the discriminating end.

    But, yes, there are those who are trying to change the organization from within. Overall, I still think scouting is a good program, it's just a few stupid policies in the organization that need to be changed.

    Yes, but the "Independence Party" is not the same as "Independent Voter". The Independence Party actually exists, and claims to be the third largest party in NY.
