"There’s one other interesting thing to note here. The manufacturers include all the biggies – Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, LG, NEC and so on – that control about 90% of the European market. But, surprisingly, Apple has also agreed to incorporate the micro-USB port into the iPhone. It’ll be interesting to see how the company reconciles its dock connector with the new standard. And, ultimately, whether this European strategy has a knock-on effect for the rest of the world."
"As of yet, the agreement is undertaken by such names as Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Research in Motion who make the BlackBerry (which most BlackBerry devices already have this port - did RIM see this coming?), Samsung, and even Apple which make the iPhone. What is surprising about the last company is that this may cause the end and death of the almighty Dock connector.
However, there is no legal reason why these companies can go ahead with using other ports. The agreement undertaken by these companies is not legally binding and only voluntary. On the other hand, this port agreement could open up different levels of possibility, as the micro-USB port is not only a charging port but can also be used as a data connector."
My i9000 (European Galaxy S variant) had very poor battery life on the stock firmware. After updating it to newer firmware (leaked beta firmware from www.samfirmware.com) my battery life has improved immensely.
I'm not sure what gsmarena did, but they got very impressive results when they were reviewing the Galaxy S. http://bit.ly/d7AmWA
A4 has a PowerVR SGX535 GPU, which can push 28 million triangles/sec whilst the Galaxy S has a PowerVR SGX540 GPU that pushes 90 million triangles/sec.
http://bit.ly/bM3JeK note: the article lists iPhone 3gs at 7 million triangles/sec with 28m deleted, but IIRC it's actually the other way around. (7m rumoured, but it was actually 28m)
My bad. I meant that it's using h264, and used the wrong term

They are using a state of the art broadcom chip. The GPS issues are most likely software based, but I'm not ruling out overheating or bad production for also having an adverse effect on the GPS performance.
Swype is great, and comes pre-loaded on many phones [Droid X, Galaxy S series of phones]. Only problem is that it adds to your dictionary anything that you tap out. That includes garbage from URLs like the end of a bit.ly link. Without manually deleting garbage like that, it starts to become unusable.
They should allow you to see and edit your dictionary like you can with T9.
Consumers, on the other hand, get the short end of the stick... those hundreds of gigs of DivX everyone has laying around are useless on many Android devices, and even software-based decoder-players aren't enough because they need max CPU permanently, draining the battery nearly as fast as Flash on an iPhone (at least according to Steve Jobs:p)...
My Samsung Galaxy S i9000 android phone (European version) plays DivX natively, without any dropped frames.:D
Apple has and always will be a company that prioritizes looks and simplicity over function. It's the same reason their products have almost no user options. They are too complicated. They force you to use the product the way they want you to.
Methinks Apple used an algorithm that showed more bars, and changed it to a normal one after the iPhone 4 debacle. Methinks they knew all along that they were showing extra bars, but didn't want to change that, because everyone is happy thinking that their shiny iPhones have better reception than other devices
They say that "one of the limitations of devices like Android and iPhone is the sampling of only two active points" but the iPhone can sample 5 points.
Really... ? My Galaxy S android device samples at least 5 points
Top Screen:3.53-inch widescreen LCD display, enabling 3D view without the need for special glasses; with 800x240 pixel resolution (400 pixels are allocated for each eye to enable 3D viewing).
Touch Screen:3.02-inch LCD with 320x240 pixel resolution with a touch screen.
fail troll. Have you even read on the subject? A qucik search on Google says: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/igeneration/micro-usb-to-be-universal-eu-phone-charger/1964 and http://www.gizmag.com/standard-micro-usb-charger-europe/12108/

I don't keep 3G on, and the battery will last around 36 hours with average usage. While idling with background sync on, it uses around 1% an hour.

You tube app is using HTML5
A prototype model that some chinese site had (Engadget linked to it) says that the display is 1024x600
Screen resolution is a rumoured 1024x600, confirmed by the chinese people who've got a hold of one of the prototype models.

You don't have to root for other software keyboards on android.

Galaxy S. I have one, and it's awesome. Samsung even open sourced their code for it.
I'd blame the original submitter for that.

Exactly what I was thinking. They started using thumbprints for the library in my school back in 2001. (It was a UK school)
