    Im a tech, but I wish I could go around and hit everybody involved with technology, with a CLUESTICK (patent pending). Just bacuse we can do this, and it helps 1 in 100, is not a excuse to do it. Almost all "New Technology" we have seen in the last year, in about monitoring somebody/something. Im telling ya, its not the right thing to do. You will box yourself in a corner, when your boss says "you might want to take a pee, cause it looks like your bladder is full"

    Most cable co's will let you have your cable modem and also basic cable for 10$ per month more. So just call them up, and cough up 10$ a month, and dont feel guilty.

    I agree, this is so Orwellian. Wasting a unholy ammount of money, to filter a few bad people. Give them another black hole to filter money to politicans, ya thats the ticket.

    I sometimes think, that our goverment has opened the doors to the world, not for cheep labor, not because of humanity, but to delute the mass of people who have voices and care about where they live. That gives them a agenda, a reason to clatter the sabers, and let you know how they are going to spend BILLIONS in finding the bad guys they let in. Oh ya, and help their buddies become rich. Why should they care, work two years, and get full pay for life.

    I suggest you talk to your VOTING friends, parents, and anybody who will lend a ear, that this is a BAD thing. Its hit the papers here in Dallas, so it makes a nice conversation topic. Actually it helps having a known criminal working on it. Makes the whole administration look bad for supporting the idea.

    I have gone down many old gold mines and caves in Colorado. Just wish we had taken a camera, not that they had digital ones back in the day.

    But while the sites are impressive. (taking a good /.ing on a adsl! and great story and pictures. Its just more fun actually doing the exploration with a friend. So now when we are doing a trip, I guess we will do a little net exploration first, to narrow down the candiates.

    There used to be a English Movie house, just next to the train station. Might check if its still there. I was plesantly supprised that when movies opened in the US it opened there at the same time. Course that was 16 years ago... But im sure there is still a english movie house in Munich, as many Muncher's prefer to hear the movie with the origional voices.

    The car: You should not have to ask how far it is to the next gas station. The car knows how much gas you have, how many miles to the next station, and your gas millage, maybe even the terrain. It should be more like:
    Hal: John, I have determined you should not have passed that last station, maybe you should turn around now.
    Hal: John, you have two miles more before the point of no return to that gas station you passed.
    Hal: John, are you listening to me?
    John: Shut UP! You dont know i have a gas can in the trunk!

    I work with robotics everyday, and while its nice to see theories advancing, this method is still not there yet. I don't think that there is enough computing power to take on a very large model. Program complexity, or better object control complexity will grow with each object added, until the time to calculate the correct move in a critical situation would exceed the point of no return.

    I think it shows the current fanbase is very solid. I agree with posts below that it probably is due to non expansion of the fanbase, costs, ect.

    I feel while the commercial is a good idea, this one will not give any non fan a warm fuzzy feeling to do ANYTHING.

    What needs to be done, is make a commercial targeted two ways, one to get the current fans who have not written in to do so, and to get others who have not seen the show interested enough to say "what was farscape about?" .sig supplying intersteller warnings since stardate 10.10

    Anyway, you can find alot at google do a search on mysql server optimization. But here is a good starting point, its a bit later down on the article, about setting the server during operation. A very big note in performance can be realized by the compilation options of mysql. http://atmail.nl/docs/mysqloptimize.html

    This looks like either PostNuke or PHPNuke web site. And while I was visiting it was serving up at a rate of around 500k before it ran out of DB connections. Guess they should have did some research on expanding the DB connections to MySql from PHP. Im sure the slashdotting will give them some insite into that. Im sure they will also come and read all the constructive comments here on /. so give em some good ones.

    I believe they really dont care about the bandwidth hogs. Its the bean counters saying "Hay if we can drop these hogs we can drop those T3 lines down to T1's and increase our PROFIT". They dont really care about the others being able to surf a bit faster when they get on for their half hour.

    I have seen cat5 to fiber converters that are fairly cheep. Being a hardware kinda guy, I have thought about removing the usual transiver pair, and seperate the detector and emitter, place the detector and emitter in seperate 15$ scopes from say walmart, and give it a go. Should work well in a several block radius, except for the normal disruptions of rain snow, birds ect..
