I dont normally comment much, just make funnies, but this time will be an exception.
When I pay one of my few staff I expect them to work as hard for the company as I do. If theres a lot of work to be done, they're gonna stay late and not get paid extra.
Thats ok, as long as there is some ballance, such as when theres slack time, you tell them to get out of there. I also expect developers under me to work hard to, if im working hard, thats my responsibility to divide up the work properly.
Only thing that overtime would allow for is slacking employees to slack off on their tasks early in a project knowing that they will get overtime when the project dealine nears to make up the slack. Its just absolutely retarded.
In your example above, it looks like the employies are not being supervised properly. It is also not the responsibility of the employee to makeup a schedule that the employer underbid or underestimated.
A decent employer will assign reasonable tasks and deadlines and listen to employees on what is required. If an employee tells me it will take x hours to do this. Then thats what he gets. If he works hard and gets it done in 1 day instead of 6 then he should get 5 off.
Programming for over 20 years, I have only seen this work once. As there is always a next project. That can be started on early. Or maintance on existing apps.
Goal based projects with reasonable deadlines and decent staff should eliminate the need for overtime completely EVEN if you often have to work 60 hours a week.
Thats ok if your salary justifies working 60 hours a week, or it was made up front that you would average 60 hours a week. If you were beaten down in price, and told the average programmer works 45 hours a week, then its not.
Have been placed on high preformance machinery that has lusers for along time. They do actually nothing. They are there to make the lusers feel like they have some sort of control . . .
As I set here, underemployed, and sucking down a beer, to be able to sleep tonight, im getting so tired of this goverment..
Wastefull spending, out every seam it has. Stabbing the workers of america so often that they look like that goatese guy.
And you know what, all of you are helping them.. makes me sick. I feel sometimes, that the development of the internet is sort of like the guys working on nuclar power, thinking "thought it would be used for good things!"
Well boys, the internet, and all the developement has just helped them monitor us so closely, they dont need any cameras. Because they know every dollar you spend and where.
They can share your information between agency's, kewl, and some stupid luser, will get some stupid infection from some porn site, and spill the guts of this system. They will just blame redmond, and go on, in fact, im sure nobody would ever know. You know their so good about telling us about their "Misshaps"...
Unless they were very close, (most werent) I could not see why they would have those lines. I know in this silo which is about 10 miles from Wolf Creek power station, that almost all the stainless tanks were salvaged, and the piping.
There was one tank that was just to big and deep for them to pull out. It would have made a great water storage tank. If my memory serves me, it was about 24' diameter, and about 75' down, with walking platforms (3) and ladders, which were all stainless.
There are many silo in Kansas, most were sold back to the farmers who owned the surounding land.
It was not till the dotbomb era, that nerds looked at them. It would take alot of time, and money to make one a real home.
A school friend of mine got his silo in kansas for 100$ a month lease, for 100 years from a farmer in kansas. With the only restriction of allowing the farmer room to park his tractor inside in the winter.
The problem with these, is you do have to heat them, and keep the humidity down. With a constant wall temp, you better be able to afford a big humidifier, or just build a house inside. My friend just build his own walls inside, cleaned it up etc.
Its so quiet and dark in the night, you wouldnt even hear a tornado if it went overhead right on top of you.
First, each led must have a wire on it. This limits the led to the size, that a ball will fit on. This is usually about 25 microns. (approx 1 mill)
So now the led must be bigger than that, so now you would have a die, normally around 10 mills, to be nice and bright. Now space them out with say 7 mills in between, and do an array, with perfect dimensions between die, (remember, you have to have a spacing big enough to place the wire down to the pcb, and you will end up with a spacing of around 17 mill centers or so.
So you see, the pitch is rather large, then you add some optics, so you can make the whole thing look good, and a 1024 x 768 to be pretty clear.
Then throw in some optics to change the view, to a smaller pitch, and walla you have the viewing scope used on so many tanks;)
This has been built for along time, and is VERY expensive.
I work in the electronics industry. It works like this, before we did final assembly her in good old usa, so we purchased parts made in usa.
Now final assembly is offshore, so the best is to purchase the parts locally.
First they buy equipment here, and assemble there. Next they build equipment there. There goes all the assembly, machine fabrication, chip assembly, plastic molding, and it goes much deeper.
The companies that think giving flashy stuff instead of lowering their prices, are going to get stomped by Walmart, who is delivering to the masses what they need.
I had found this site, and finally a link to the fbi public information, and was reading about somebody in one of the letters requesting more information, about what he thought the theory was, and then this came out on slashdot and I thought it was funny. I know he was working on some laser stuff, but the process destroyed the crystal every time it was used. Might visit this site: http://www.eskimo.com/~billb/tesla/tesla.html
and i found the link to the fbi releases here: http://foia.fbi.gov/tesla.htm
I did some research a few days ago, and I deduct that what he was trying to do, was beat two signals at different frequency from different locations, to the same point. He was possibly trying to create ball lightning to cause muntions to explode.
While SCO is changing the scope of their lawsuits, and yes in court, lawyers may legaly lie, they may not do so outside of court. I hope FSF is keeping origional copies of all articles, and sue their pants off either after or during the trial!
Maybe Rob could build this into the core of /. as a spell checker.

You just took me to seriously. Yes I agree with you, I was just being my normal lighthearted self.

Maybe something along the lines of paying for processing time, on millions of computers would get the work done like seti@home.
Well you could dry them outside, if you like to have your pockets full of dust when you bring them in.
We should all just start practicing our goose stepping now..

Just put a sign out front, Free Cable.
I guarantee you will get some electrician come pull every piece out. And it will not cost you a dime.
