Currently working on a display for older tanks, price is somewhere in the 100K range for the first 10 units, the price drops on additional ones. We had to redesign everything to meet the old spec.
We could have done it for half the cost if they would have changed the system feeding the information to the display.
The old display was not near a crisp as the new display, and was made with obsolete parts.
But this is better than buying a new tank, so in the end, repair may be cheaper than a whole new system.
I agree, we had no servers. And I will tell you the access time to any students records was guaranteed to be less than the time it takes to log in. The gall if it! We actually used folders, and paper! Humm can we sue Microsoft for prior art? I mean folder, and object inside like Pictures and documents! When my kids ask what our generation did, I tell them where do you think the computers and internet came from? You think Al Gore invented it? Pufft
I am here in Dallas, and if you want a reliable collocation or hosted system with people who are reasonable, I can recommend http://www.sprocketdata.com/ . I have had my hardware there for seven years. Have seen it only once, and that is after they moved locations and called me that they broke the front cover moving it and that they will replace it for me. I pay 50$ per month, with 7 ip addresses (probably cost me that much in electricity if I had it at our location not including bandwidth or ip's).
You may have a bit more bandwidth that I use but they are very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. They have never asked for root access, but have been happy to hook up a crash card one time for me, at no additional cost.
I agree in business its ok, but really every intersection in Texas has 4 cameras now. Even ones in small towns, paid for by grants from DHS.
In the Dallas Metroplex, they have also installed networking which is supposed to be used by emergency workers (this makes me laugh as when there is a real disaster they will not have power) but I am sure they are also being used by the cities to read the power and water meters in the future.
Taking even a small failure rate, the cost of maintenance will be beyond what the cities can stand to keep the systems up. The big brother ideal will fail and only leave us with a bill to pay.
Really I am sick and tired of the surveillance realm. If anybody really wants to do something nefarious they will make sure the cameras don't work. Simply pull them down, spray them with paint or whatever. The authorities will not come running. After the fact usage is good, but really it doesn't stop any crime, even the random ones.We are the ones funding this and do not even have a say in it.
Go buy a flipping magic jack, and call forward your cell. Plug your old pots phones into the magic jack and done. for 20$ a year or so. That cheep enough??? Unlimited long distance too.
This is a bankruptcy proceeding, there are no investments, only purchase of assets that will go to the creditors. There is no plan that they currently have that will fly, as any purchase of any part of the company must be approved by the court, and the creditors. They are trying some shenanigans but in the end, it will be a few more delays so they can suck a bit more money out of the corps. They have not been providing the sec papers either. While they keep struggling, in the end they will just be a small crater in history.
So your stating that the lunches that are provided to the THOUSANDS of doctors daily by the Drug Manufacturing sales teams, are what? Adding value? Saving life's?
Do not say they don't do it either. I have worked with several offices of doctors, and find them about as attractive as your run of the mill ambulance chasing lawyer (not all of them). While there are several I really do like, the most think their employees are stealing every cent from them or their partners. They all want magic accounts in the billing system that money goes into that is not taxed goes into. I was very happy to get out of that line of business.
Hospital's are straight out thief's. One time I called my insurance company because we felt they needed to audit the expenses charged on our hospital bills (many things, first thing I remember is being charged about 100$ for a box of rubber gloves) and I know they used one set out of the box. The insurance company said they would look into it. About a month later they contacted me and said it was all ok. I asked who did the audit, and they told me "the hospital did" and I wigged out. That was it for me and faith in a medical system that is based on making money...

Some doctors and all pharmaceutical companies and hospitals do not want to cure you with a blue pill. Their whole existence in life is to maximize their profits, to do otherwise is not in the interest of their share holders.

With all the phone taps, camera monitors, cell phone tracking by the government, you think you have to worry about your friends knowing where you are? I mean really, if I wanted to hunt you down, there are much easier ways, than coming and taking your cell phone, hacking the application on to it, then tracking you down later again?
And that space that was sold in the auction? Is the government going to reimburse the people who purchased the leases on this space that will be continued to be used? I smell another bailout..
Do not know what your really talking about, been self employed for 8 years. Have a mix of windows and linux systems, which are really for my own needs.

Military transports were just not big enough to shovel the money out of the country, now we are using freighters.
