Wise, but not smart. Does EA not realize how many kazillions of dollars they could gain from selling banner ads to be displayed in the game lobbies?

Ummmmmm. Since when have banner ads proved any source of significant income? Still living 1999 dotcom days?

This game is the biggest pile of crap Square has rolled out since their TOM SAWYER game for the Famicom. I picked up the Japanese version and played it for a whole 10 minutes before regretting buying it. It's total fanboy-catering - horrible story, and an abuse of the decent story that 10 had.

What the hell do you need the hard drive for right now if you wont play FFXI? As far as I know, there aren't any other US games that use it. If you're importing games to play...well import a hard drive too.

I fail to see how this is any different from what already takes place in society. Say for example, I screwed off my entire life until I was 40 years old, but my rich father ushered me into being president of the USA? Sounds mighty like having a secret code to me.

Developers unable or unwilling to fix bugs

While many online games are very slow to fix bugs, you should not directly blame it on the developers. SQA's are usually in control of what (if any) bugs are fixed. At times, in large companies, the development team may not even know a bug exists.

For example, we had a major exploit in PvP in Everquest on one of the servers with special rules for combat. Two years went by without it being fixed. The actual dev team didn't learn of the exploit until they doing Q&A with a public audience, and were confronted with it. The devs claimed the SQA team had never notified them. However, the exploit was patched shortly after.

This actually made me laugh and there's more truth to it than seems. Anyone who knows Japanese culture to any extent knows why the XBOX isn't selling well in Japan. It's a similar reason that SONY/NINTENDO can't break into the huge Korean gaming market.

Blizzard is NOT developing Starcraft:Ghost. Don't confuse this. They are simply the publisher. The good people at Nihilistic are developing it as a third party. Though, given the quality of Nihilistic's last game, Vampire, I'm sure Starcraft:Ghost will rock.
