Its quite possible to have it so that when the RFID's are scanned at the checkout they are destroyed. This might create a small problem with refunds but definitly helpful to the retalier
Spammers will always try to out do filters and such like. They will get more devious and its a continual game of one upmanship. The only 100% solution is to go live as a hermit in the mountains but hey even then I would guess that you would get leafleted
I for one can't say that I'm unhappy. I didn't like the idea of people being able to work out where I bought my clothes from by scanning me. Of course the RFID's might of been destroyed at the checkout. I mean if people really want to know they can ask me or look at the label.
With all these sort of things its a balance between privacy and eas of use. For food for example I can see why storing the Use-By date would be handy but for some things it just won't really work
Some of use can't help having to publish our address such as on business websites. However there are thing you can do such as tag addresses. For example if I post to a mailing list then I would use mailing-list-name@65535.net for example. Now I wonder how long before that email address starts getting spam?
Cool now does that mean instead of paying for airtime on my mobile I can route my calls via my ADSL using VoIP + right software? Now that would be cool and save money
I can't help but wonder if this will case MS to put in some code to disable this particular key or force it to activate on the net? Of course they can't do this for all keys but it might slow things down.
Of course by now I expect more keys have been leaked
IIRC around the time of 95/98 a lot of companies were just shipping windows with a standard key which was bound around the country code and a load of 1's. Anyway if you really want a code for anything groups.google.com is your friend.
Yay another Redhat update. Reading the article I can't seen any reason to upgrade apart from the normal updated packages. However it is nice to see RedHat at least following a sensible, if slightly unpopular, route with regards to pantents such as MP3
Now if only TiVo was still in the UK. We have Sky+ which can "Pause Live TV". Of course things like MP3 playing/Viewing photos can be done on any modern DVD player but it would be so nice to have an all in one solutions
The URL supplied doesn't quite work. As it has a trailing slash when you access the page and click next page it goes to http://www....com//2 however their script doesn't like this so it serves up the front page again. To fix it delete the trailing backslash
How important is it for robots that are around the house to look human. I mena I can understand that people will most likely be more accpeting of them but are they the best design for whatever job they are doing? Or are they really just showing what we can?
I know that walking is a huge problem for robots especially going up and down stairs
I use virtualhosts a lot. Due to the relativtly scarce number of IP addresses left people like Arin and RIPE aren't that happy about issues a unique IP address for each site. The only time you really need it is if you are using SSL
So as I can't comment on the article itself I thought that it might be mentioning that chroots are good but no infalliable. If someone can get root permission inside a chroot you can break out
Sometimes when out on the road I like to use a text browser or the browse on my phone. Trying to use yahoo is a horrible expierence. The small screen is busy and hard to see where one thing ends and other starts. Google on the other hand looks like google. Simple and quick
Also wap.google.com provides a way to browse the real web over wap. Also things like the google API just make it a much nicer platform. However it would be nice to have some competition for google just so they make it better
Google takes the its liteness very seriously. In an interview someone from google said that they kept recieving emails with numbers in it. One week 54, the next week 56. They finally worked out it was someone saying how may words appeared on the title page. Since then they've purposly kept it low
Thanks. I was sitting here thinking the rope would be tethered to a land based object so the thought of a rope fliging around didn't seem like quite like such a good idea. Also on the ocean I support you can move to catch the rope
I understand that basically that the space elevator is a an elevator which is moved up and down to an orbiting space station. The thing I'm trying to work out is how do you teather them together? Short of tying a rope to the backend of a rocket and firing it up I just can't work it out? Any ideas?
I think MS is being quite clever here (can't believe I just wrote that). The way I'm seeing it is that they are basically doing product development on 12 new products for $300,000. If you actually look at the amount of time/development that goes on in big coporation you will find that 90% of the things reasearched never come to fruition. Going from what MS is offering is that if they can just get one of these ideas of the ground then they might have a killer product for very little investment.
As for the rules well that is another discussion totally
Weather goes in cycles. Simple fact. Without man being an influence we've had ice ages -> hot spells -> ice ages. If what they are saying is true then as its now cooler then we might be haeding for another ice age. Also take the hole in the ozone layer which was a big deal in the late 80's. Recent tests have shown that is now smaller and taking the life of CFC's is 50 years people are now wondering if it is all a natural cycle
This is a good thing to see with people taking advantage of fibre. Here in the UK we are in the stupid position in that there is lots of dark fibre which was layed by British Telecom (BT), our telephony monopoly, but they have no product which can use it so we have to get (A)DSL over copper which works apart from those of us who live in the middle of nowhere
We need diversity in TV channels as it the main media through which people get their information. If there is only a limited number of media outlets the stories that get broadcast will be more one sided than they are already. Things like the BBC are relativly fair but still not totally independant. The best course I would say is news.google.com. As all the stories are supposdly chosen by computer then it at least gives a fair cross sample
