  1. don't blanket statement on Ebert Reclassifies Games as Sports · · Score: 1

I'd agree generally, but not as a blanket statement. How about Deus Ex, stronger story and characters than virtually any film. Actually I'm not sure you could call all films art, particularly the SFX orgies you often get.

  2. Intent on Slot Machine with Bad Software Sends Players To Jail · · Score: 1

Intent is the key word, IE there has to be proof of intent, if you've been looking at the schematics / rom images for that machine and your skilled at reverse engineering, then you win big, well...

If your just average joe, then no.

  3. PC on The ESRB, Earmarks, and Manhunt 2 in Game Politics · · Score: 1

Please release on PC, maybe on STEAM or any other online system. That way the demographic tends to be older and you don't have rating issues.

  4. Nothing new really on Making Old Sound Recordings Audible Again · · Score: 1

I have friends who are DJ's and they've often used laser/light based vinyl decks. Yes this does modelling etc, but it's only really an un-interesting natural extension of it.

  5. What they bought on CUPS Purchased By Apple Inc. · · Score: 1

  6. Re:Gore Sells But Who's Buying on Take Two Vows To Publish Manhunt 2 · · Score: 1

Quite frankly, how would you know it's not an art form. The first game was ugly and brutal, it also had a ugly and brutal storyline. But it was a very very good storyline, far better than maybe all but about 3 films I've ever seen and atmosphere that the game created was one of the finest (or worst/scariest) I've ever experienced.

So yes it's brutal, but you could not have made the game if it was based on jumping on koopa troopa's (not that there's nothing wrong with Mario games either).

  9. Re:EB refunded my money on Manhunt 1, Box OPENED! on Manhunt 2 Ban Fallout, Game Rated AO By ESRB · · Score: 1

It's not a pleasant subject matter, and its not a pleasant game. But given the subject matter it's not over the top at all and does have a superb storyline. I can believe though that the second one just turns into a gore fest (like sequels to horror films do).

  10. Re:Just wondering... on Manhunt 2 Banned In Britain · · Score: 1

Did you play the first game, it had an incredibly strong plot and atmosphere once you got into it, far beyond any film. Oh the last James Bond had an incredibly nasty first scene where the "good" guy killed someone.

  11. Hw are you every going to save for anything on Is Cash No Longer Legal Tender? · · Score: 1

_Every_ single year you will _loose_ a percentage of your wealth which is equal to that of the inflation rate. This is not so bad if your a student with limited savings, but if your saving for a house or a car your going to be losing a lot of money each and every year. The only way to stop this is to have a bank account (or other investments) that pays equal or more than inflation+your tax rate.

  12. Re:banning might be the only recourse left on Manhunt 2 Banned In Britain · · Score: 1

In the UK the BBFC sets the age rating, this will/would be an 18, and if you knowingly serve it to someone younger I'm pretty sure you end up in jail. Now you _will_ get leakage to maybe 16 or so, but it largely does work on that side.

Of course some parents also give them to their children, but that on the whole is another matter and I think that is stupidity (sometimes, not always) as if it were a film they probably would not. Certainly I would say ManHunt is no worse than say SAW though, even the last James Bond film started with something which I would say is worse than anything in the first game.

  13. Storyline, Expression on Manhunt 2 Banned In Britain · · Score: 1

Sure the first game was not pleasant, but it had a stronger storyline than virtually any other game I've played except maybe Deus Ex. Infact it's probably one of the best games I've ever played in terms of atmosphere, characters and story. The sequel might have lost that to a degree (they usually go that way tbh) but if it were a film, nobody would pay attention, Games of course are the cause of all evil in the world.

  14. Bad Records on Pressure Is On IBM To Forgive Millions In IT Debt · · Score: 4, Insightful

And obsoleted computers does not mean they should be let off their debt. I reckon I may leave everything I owe for 27 years or so then claim that.

Seriously instead of saying "let us off" they should be saying "here's your money, _please_ don't charge us interest or take us to court".

  16. For laptops on Puncturing the "PCs Are Cheaper Than Macs" Myth · · Score: 1

Yes, as they are throw away items with limited upgradability even in the PC world. This is not the case with PC's. Also if you want a cheap PC it's _really_ cheap, not so for a Mac.

But yes thier laptop range _is_ very competive at some price points. Shame they don't have an option for a _propper_ UK keyboard, otherwise I may have bought one.

  17. Re:Operating system on Next Windows To Get Multicore Redesign · · Score: 1

Agreed, If I have a 32 core, I'd be happy to have my OS in just one, even if it were _really_ utilized. There's a lot of stuff in Windows that isn't OS though, your right. Actually in general I'm still to be sold on this making everything multi-threaded/multi-core. Bug lists etc seem to point to the fact that big (and little) co's can't do single threaded right yet anyway.

  18. Maybe it is a new class of device on Palm Unveils Foleo, Linux-Based "Mobile Companion" · · Score: 2, Interesting

But heck, A PC maker could make one tomorrow nearly, chuck a transmetta/via chip in a uber small laptop chassis, remove all the perhipherals, add maybe 2GB flash instead of a HDD and something like XFCE and your mostly there. All you'd have to do is figure out the mobile phone syncing stuff which ain't going to be too hard.

Personally I like it, though I'm a programmer and need a proper laptop, although I can see that this _may_ fit a niche/market.

In a public place, even on a street, they put up signs "we are using CCTV to help insure your safety". Yeh Yeh, at least it's said though. I'm guessing it's not just because they are nice, something legal, in the UK you can't record a conversation without notifying the other person, now I'm sure the police can get around it as part of an investigation, but traffic wardens aren't police and actually, quite often work for private firms, so do they wear a sign?

  22. usage on The Palm OS Ends With a Whimper · · Score: 1

I bought a 680 recently, knowing it was dying. But its not about how much power your pda/phone has, but how u use it, Apple know this too. Anyway it's really nice to use and quite polished. Could do with being smaller, better phone, faster etc, but overall, I think it's superb.

  23. Ecomomic Zone on Sunken Treasure Worth $500 Million Found Off England · · Score: 1

An exclusive economic zone extends for 200 nautical miles (370 km) beyond the baselines of the territorial sea, thus it includes the territorial sea and its contiguous zone.[3] A coastal nation has control of all economic resources within its exclusive economic zone, including fishing, mining, oil exploration, and any pollution of those resources. However, it cannot regulate or prohibit passage or loitering above, on, or under the surface of the sea, whether innocent or belligerent, within that portion of its exclusive economic zone beyond its territorial sea. Before 1982, coastal nations arbitrarily extended their territorial waters in an effort to control activities which are now regulated by the exclusive economic zone, such as offshore oil exploration or fishing rights (see Cod War). Indeed, the exclusive economic zone is still popularly, though erroneously, called a coastal nation's territorial waters.
