Hopefully we can show enough people that the complexity of Word is very rarely used. Maybe mass installations of the windows version of vim will help:)
I think what is required is mass education... every time some nitnoid sends you an Email with a Word document attached, and nothing in the Word document but text, respond! Don't just shake your head, think "what an idiot", and read it... respond to the Email!
I just went to www.ukbetting.com and the page opened right up. Apparently the geolocation isn't completely foolproof. No tricks; we're on an rr.com connection, which isn't exactly tough to track or anything.
I dunno... I could be wrong, but I got the impression that they were looking for *messages hidden via steganography* -- in other words, looking to see if *something* was there in the image. Whether or not it was an *encrypted* message shouldn't make a difference, just that *something* besides image data existed?
Kind of surprised no one uploaded a bunch of steg'd images just for laughs.. encrypted messages like "No, this isn't from a terrorist", "Windows/Bill Gates/Microsoft Blows", "steg _this_, buddy"... or "First Post!"
Yes... you do want to look at CLEP tests to get started. I CLEP'd my way into an associate's in a couple of months (with some credits for some military courses I'd taken during my career). Quick way to knock out some basic courses. More info on CLEP tests at http://www.collegeboard.org/clep/ along with lots of other sites (google to the rescue).
50% a year for five years? So... let's say he started out at 40K... he's making well over 200K now? Jeezus, just how far does this guy wanna advance???
Set them up with the StarOffice 6.0 beta for windows machines. Once they get used to that (shouldn't take long) then tell them the _same_ interface is used in Linux, then start on the money angle.
Actually, photos of this were taken by U-2 aircraft back in the fall of '62, but other pictures were more interesting, so they got shoved aside. Try the Freedom of Information Act.
Of course you can become addicted... just as you can become addicted to smokes, or scratching your nose, or giggling in an irritating way. What's the news flash here... I just don't get it.
Agreed wholeheartedly. M$ isn't the only one guilty of this type of action, as sites all over the damn place either won't display or won't display right depending on what browser you use, but they're the first ones (that I'm aware of) to try to do it on a wholesale, large-scale basis. Glad they took the pressure hit and backed off; now if other sites will just take the example...
That's the complaint address at the Federal Trade Commission for spam; granted, intelligent Email harvesters would check for and discard that address (sending spam to it would be tantamount to turning yourself in), but not all spammers meet the intelligence test;)
I get it now... according to the RIAA, I'm guilty until proven innocent. They want to be able to crack my system in order to prove me innocent. Oh, and if they fry my system, sorry, but I can't do anything about it.
One of the things that tech should NOT do.. given that part of this is human failure.. is give the other side an advantage by letting him know our plans. Sometimes I wish I could just reach out and smack some reporter who, by quick use of Email and communications, trumpets his "scoop" about what we're doing, and where, before the operation is complete. Hey, goons, our side isn't the ONLY ones watching your reports!
I went to www.microsoft.com (with condoms on my fingers, of course) and checked the source code. I figured if they were using their own product to write their web pages, then they would be breaking their own EULA with all the Linux hatred on their site (comparing to cancer, etc).
Oddly enough, though, I couldn't find any META tags specifying what the generator was! Something tells me they don't code their pages by hand... are they embarrassed about what authoring program they _do_ use??
Providian is scum of the earth anyway, and clueless to boot.
When I was stationed overseas with the Air Force, I had a $5000 limit providian card. When I sent in my change of address (to an APO address, which is a US Post Office zip code denoting overseas military), I received a letter from them telling me that I couldn't use my card anymore since I was overseas. Seems they don't have any confidence in their ability to collect from overseas users.
I wrote them a letter, and even called them, explaining that mail sent to an APO address never leaves the control of USPS, and that being in the military, I can be tracked down anywhere in the world to satisfy bad debt claims.
Didn't matter to them... I was still overseas (serving my country no less) so the card was cut off until I returned to the good old US of A where their goons can find me easier if I default. Took me a good 30 seconds to turn that card into confetti....
What the hey... maybe I'm ignernt or something, but what's the deal with waiting for two companies to quit squabbling? Why not define the standard and let _them_ conform to the standards, instead of conforming the standards to _them_??

Yup, you're right... same here... poor writing on the part of the author, I guess.

NOTE: as of right now, the US mirror for the demo is NOT faster than the main download site.

Suspects? No proof... we just _think_ this is the case? This bothers me...

Another important address to add: uce@ftc.gov
;)

Windows has detected that you have moved your mouse.
The system is now rebooting so that your changes will take effect.
...now we're going to need federal registration to download images off the web... all for the greater cause of fighting terrorism, of course!

How about enabling a switch to disable GPS except during 911 calls?

Just sent that .sig to a buddy of mine; he replied with /home/taliban -exec rm {} \;
